2013 timing chain tensioner

I’ve had my 2013 C650GT for 3 months and I have the timing chain tensioner tick just starting. It’s got 3800 miles on it. Are BMW motorcycle shops still doing the warranty replacement on these? I’m about 1.5 hours away from a dealer. I do have local bike shops, but I haven’t dug in with this yet. Looking for some solid advise. Thanks

Your 2013 should be covered by the BMW recall . 1st step to to call BMW customer service & tell them the last 7 numbers of your VIN # . Example: ZT97302 .

BMW will tell you if your C650GT qualifies for the service to have the tensioner changed to a hydraulic version all repair work should be done by a BMW dealer @ no cost to you since it's a factory recall.

BMW will check for any open recalls you might still have open on your model & year

Recall # 14V-264

BMW customer service # : 1-800-525-7417

Attach PDF from BMW that spells out details on the recall

Also make the dealer gets all the required parts in stock before going in. Sometimes the parts needed for this update take a while to get to the dealer.

Hope your bike is on the list to get the tensioner replaced .

Thank you Mike,
I called BMW customer service and the only recall listed for my bike is the brake line warranty. The guy I talked to was nice, but claimed they have no info on the timing chain tensioner recall and wouldn’t even research the issue for me. I have a feeling this is going to be a fight. I’ve contacted my nearest dealer and I’m waiting for a response. I’d be surprised if BMW is going to cover this. I’ll update when I have info.

I just had my 2016 chain tensioner done at the deal NOT under recall on my C 650 GT
So on Thursday i will go to the Wild West Motoplex n pay the of $1.564 BUCKS. It took
them 2 days to get it done. The labor was $110 PER HR. Then on checking the bike for
any other issues. They the BMW tech said a sensor oil light on dash. was faulty. I am NOT
going to have that done. Cuz that's another $500.00 labor n parts. When i had the bike
n the chain tensioner got loud. I was NOT having a issue with the oil sensor light being
on all the time. So i will see on Thursday when i ride my bike to see IF that light
stays on or shuts off after 10 minutes of riding.

I did get someone at BMW warranty dept to admit this recall 14v-264 exists. Talked to my nearest dealer as well and they are working on helping me. I may need the dealer to diagnose and create an IDS tag to push this through. I find it hard to believe that this is documented recall issue and I’m having such a difficult time getting help from BMW. Maybe I’m not talking to the right people. BMW should be fixing these tensioners. These scooters are not cheap and they obviously used a junk tensioner that doesn’t last 4000 miles. We’ll see what happens.

I'm not surprised BMW acted like like they did . Basically it will cost BMW $ to do the right thing & fix the problem they're completely aware of. I was hard to get BMW to help me out. BMW doesn't want to do what's right & honorable, which is a sad comment for such a big multi national company. The scooter owners are not high priority usually since we don't shell out big dollars like R1250GS owners. BMW lives for the big ADV market buyers & will help them since they paid $20K for the bike.

Do give up easy. The customer service will usually say they're hands are tied if your C650 isn't on the list. They're only following what they see on the database screen.
If the dealer doesn't go to bat for you then I would recommend emailing the head of BMW Executive Customer Care, Motorrad Customer Relations and Services . Be nice but ask why is there a recall , but nobody at BMW willing to help you with a well known defective part. Why would a recall be created if the tensioner isn't a problem ? Crazy right?

The head of BMW USA Motorrad customer care in NJ is Mark Pechko . His email: [email protected]

I hope the dealer will help you out & so don't have to contact Mark @ BMW

Good Luck ...

Berks I have contacted BMW Motorad USA n they told me that mine was NOT listed on
the recall. I do think ALL the BMW scooters that are the C 650 GT or sport should get the
recall. I asked them at my dealer about this issue and they my bike is NOT listed. Yeah
these bikes are NOT cheap at all.
