Hi
I am in Australia and have been trying to get an automatic Timing Chain Tensioner for my 2015 BMW C650GT.
My C650GT is listed as a late 2015 model and it is exactly the same as a 2016 model with the updated exhaust instrumentation ASC and TC ect. so I can presume that the updated scooter actually came out in late 2015 even though it was stated that they came out in 2016.I have had a chance to remove the side cover and discovered that my 2015 Scooter does not have the Hydraulic Timing Chain Tensioner so I am ordering the parts to update it to Hydraulic! I have been able to order the required parts from a dealer in Victoria.

Here in the states we have several online options for BMW dealers that sell OEM parts, the cost is the same as if you went to their parts counter but you get the parts at least as fast as ordering through your local dealer. I would be surprised if your local dealer had the parts in stock, but for something like this it would probably be better if you had a good parts man helping you with ordering the correct part as well as any additional parts required (often a "kit" is offered to a dealer's shop that doesn't show up in the parts fiche). In Atlanta, where I live there is no close BMW dealer I can deal with, was a 120 mile round trip to get the brake recall done, twice, drop it off and later pick it up. If you can get a part number, Carpimoto might be a good source, and a GOOGLE down under might show other options for parts.

Try MAX BMW in USA. Located in near New York. They're the best for parts . Would email the parts dept & see if they ship to Australia . Try this email:

I thought about sending him to Max or Ben, was hoping they had a local dealer that would be easier on him getting parts (customs, VAT, shipping delays), but Max is an excellent source if they will ship to him.

Hi
I am in Australia and have been trying to get an automatic Timing Chain Tensioner for my 2015 BMW C650GT.
I am not riding it at the moment as the tensioner sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.
I dont want to cause any damage and the Engine Management light is on.
Anyone in Australia know where I can obtain a tensioner?
I don't understand : sometimes it works and sometimes doesn't...I thought when it doesn't work " That's it "..I have the GT 650/ 2018 and wrote to BMW - Mototorrad au, about any recall's because I was worried about the tensioner, as a bought mine 2 sec-hand 9500 Km now. I have a sort of a rattle on the front right engine and think they are the rollers. I don't know if I have the auto-T in or not .Good luck. Norman QLD

They emailed me straight back. You properly know that they stopped Importing the c 650 , same as Suzuki Burgman 650. I'm not a mechanic, but a " bit of knowledge". When the chain jump's " that's it ", so that is, why I didn't understand sometimes it work's. Good luck and safe/happy riding

What I know so far is, the Engine for the BMW is build by Kymco. I had a Downtown ( 300 cc) and the BMW has the same mesh strainer as the Kymco. I noticed that when I have done an oil/filter change.
as you know the Engine light can come up for a lot of things....ask the forum ? Maybe it has nothing to do with the tensioner. ( don't see me as a " smarty ", Mr know it all )

Norman I don't see you as a smarty... I see you as someone who is genuinely trying

to help which I certainly appreciate very much. I am reading what you have to say with interest.
I was looking for a diagnostic tool to see why the engine management light was on. Thank you for the link.

Powersports had a BMW dealership just a few miles from my house, about the time I bought my scooter they lost the BMW franchise. (They may have given it up, was never clear to me what happened). Wooly's is the closest Motorrad shop to me, they do good work but don't have a large stock of new BMW bikes (several of the new 1800, no new RTs that I saw but a couple of VERY nice used ones only a few years old). There is an Indian shop not too far from me, I know the owner (we shoot clay targets at the same club), Ed saw me at a fuel station and asked about the scooter, we talked for a few minutes and he says he is working on getting BMW added to his Indian shop. I'm looking at several R1200RTs and see that his shop is already doing scheduled maintenance and clutch replacements so I figured he has probably hired at least one BMW mechanic. May not have been clear, the ad for the used RT stated that the maintenance and clutch had been done at his Indian dealership. I looked hard for BMW Motorrad shops, even checking down in Macon (a little farther drive but not through Atlanta) and there just aren't any closer than Wooly's.

There are probably shops around that do work on the scooters, but this was the brake hose recall (warranty) and needed to be done by a BMW dealer (anything else I would do myself), I even asked if they would just give me the hose and I would do it myself but they said they could only sell me,the hose and fluids; so fine, you fix it and I'll pick it up when it's ready.
