I plan on starting down this Sunday, assuming the weather reports are wrong and the roads remain clear... if we get significant snowfall, I don't know what I'll do as the resort is already booked and is non-refundable.

In any event, I plan on arriving in town on Monday, March 13 and returning back north on the 18th. I won't be riding the scooter (current plans are for me to use the K1200LT as it is far better suited for droning along on the interstate) but I wouldn't mind meeting any of you who might be in the area.

So I added a passenger backrest to the “Red Rider” Beamer and took the Misses for a couple of rides. She loved it and now thinks she’s a “Biker Chick.” When she heard about the upcoming Daytona Bike Week next month, she tells me: “I want to go!” “Let’s ride there together on the motorcycle and spend the night! It will be fun!”

I said, “Okay ... even though this BMW can get to 60 quicker than a Harley, ... you know it's technically a Scooter right?” “They’ll throw rocks.”

She said, “I don’t care … It’ll be fun and I want to go.”

So I booked the last overpriced room at a little Inn on the Beach in Daytona for the 12th-14th of March ... I guess I’m taking my “Biker Chick” (technically “Scooter Gal” but don’t tell her that) to Bike Week in Daytona.

So JAC, I guess we’ll see you there … I’ll be wearing earplugs (loud pipes) but I shouldn’t be hard to miss.

I've toyed around with taking the scooter this year, but the K1200LT gets nearly 300 miles on a tank of gas, and has real, electronic cruise control. Typically, once I'm on I-95, I engage the cruise control, turn up the music, and just ride till I need to refuel.

My goal is to make "South of the Border" in Dillon, SC the first night, and make it into Daytona in time for a late lunch.

Sweet.
It's only a two & 1/2-hour ride, depending on traffic, for us ... the real challenge will be to limit her to only bring what can fit under the seat for two nights

The snow is really coming down outside. If the roads aren't clear on Sunday, or the rest of the route looks "iffy" I may take a pass on riding the K1200LT and put the C650GT on a trailer and do the "unthinkable."

Last year when I tried to go to Biketoberfest, Matthew washed out I-95 south of Lumberton, NC and I had to turn around. I'm not going to let the weather stop me TWICE!!!

Looks like rain for both Sunday and Monday now!

But just for her - because obviously you won't need anything.

Ha ha. Her normal overnight is a fullsize case. This forecasted Florida rain may throw a hiccup into the mix. She has no plans of getting wet unless it's the pool or beach.

Cordura and GORE-TEX. Just checked the forecast for the area. Other than showers on the day I arrive, it's looking like a BEAUTIFUL week. Even better, I'll be missing a potential BLIZZARD hitting my area here on Tuesday.

What's your final decision? Ride down or drive?

Had a clear but COLD ride all the way down till I hit the Florida state line. Then the temperatures finally started feeling like Spring except then it started to rain. Rode in and out of the rain all the way to the resort here in Orlando. Arrive Monday evening. Today was chilly and overcast in the morning but the sun finally did break through and the temperatures actually reached the 70s. I had a new front tire installed at BMW of Daytona as my front one was looking pretty "iffy" for the ride home. Only one scooter on the floor, a white, 2016 C650 Sport. Haven't seen any BMW scooters on the road yet.

Jaime, sorry we missed you. We had rain on-and-off right up until the day (yesterday) we had to head home (wife had an event in St Pete Wednesday morning she didn't want to miss). We stayed at the "Sunrise Inn" on the beach and didn't see a sunrise until the morning we had to check out. The rain helped to keep the crowds low and at least made street parking easy.

The funniest thing happened Tuesday at 1pm when we were getting on the scoot to head home after some last minute shopping on main street (sun was finally out, it was dry, and the fair-weather bikers were pouring in). As we walked up to the GT we saw two gray-haired guys, wearing BMW T's, standing next to the bike checking it out and when they saw me unlock the seat, asked me: "Did You put those on there?"

"Those what?" I responded.

"Those BMW logo's" one said, while pointing at the side of the bike; "BMW doesn't make a scooter."

I couldn't help but smile. "Evidently ... BMW undeniably did, while you weren't looking," I winked.

The wife dropped in her purse & shopping bag, I closed the seat, and she climbed on the back.
With their mouths still open and their faces scrunched up, I gave 'em one last smile and a wink and we rode home.

I'm taking it easy today in Orlando (where I'm staying). I have an 1,100 mile weekend and it isn't looking like the weather is going to be terribly cooperative. In fact, I'm not even sure I'll make it home on Sunday as there is a good chance of snow/freezing rain. I've already notified my boss at work I may not be in the office on Monday. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Just saw they say there's a chance of 4 to 6 inches of snowfall back home Saturday night into Sunday morning. This isn't good... Well, I'll get as far north as I can tomorrow and see what happens on Sunday.
