AeroFlow Windscreen Low - First Impression

I finally did get a chance to get out for about 150 miles this past week with about 50 of those miles being 2-up.

My first impression is that the AeroFlow produces a much cleaner airflow at any position. In fact I found myself riding at highway speeds with the screen full down more then fully up. To be clear with the screen fully up it provided a clean and quiet wind flow producing a bubble so quiet it was quite easy to have a conversation with my passenger. Very reminiscent to the experience I had when demoing the K1600GTL. In fact it was difficult to find a position that caused any unpleasant wind buffeting.

1-up there were several positions I liked based upon the speed I was traveling. I found I could direct the flow of air easily to just above my visor and into the air intakes for my helmet making for a very cooling sensations.

Looking forward to quite a few miles as the weather cools down here in the desert.

Great to hear. I'm hoping my screen arrives early this week. How difficult was it to install?

I'm ASSUMING it'll be easier to install than the Aeroflow screen I installed on the LT. That is a two-piece affair (the most complex design Aeroflow ever devised), but still pretty simple.

Just didn't know if the C650GT screen was as easy to remove as it LOOKED. I'm a firm believer in Murphy's Law: "NOTHING is as easy as it looks."

One of the RARE exceptions to "Murphy's Law." It really was as easy to do as it looked. Haven't had an opportunity to ride with it yet, though. That'll wait till tonight when I head out to my motorcycle club meeting (assuming the predicted thunderstorms don't materialize that is).

How are these to install? I am 5' 11'', will the standard work or should I go with the high? The standard look very similar to the stock version.

It is four torx screws (and the required tool is part of the stock toolkit). You'll just need a helper to make sure the screen doesn't crash to the ground when you remove the fourth screw, and to help you position the new one.

You're a half inch taller than I am so you SHOULD be fine. I also tend to sit straight up, so I sit higher than most people (who tend to slouch whether they know it or not).

Thanks for the information. The stock windshield is fine for most riding I do but we are thinking of making a trip from New York to Vermount. I am hoping it will be a little better on interstate and better rain protection.

How much difference is there in flexing of the shield at higher speeds? Is this one any thicker than the stock shield?

The only flexing I'm seeing is at the mount points themselves. There's nothing Aeroflow can do about that, though. It's minimal, however.

Haven't I said it enough already? ;-) It's worth EVERY penny! Don't understand why BMW doesn't just pay Paige and his crew to build windshields for their bikes as original equipment. I've owned four BMWs and not ONE of them came with a windscreen that was worth a DAMN.

(Okay, so technically my 1985 K100 didn't come with a screen at all... but the available screens from BMW were HORRIBLE).

I've ordered the standard Aeroflow windscreen and was anticipating its arrival sometime today. Just got the UPS email stating "Delivery Exception-Mechanical or Other Failure". Speaking of Murphy's Law?! Well, I'll let you know if/when it arrives and what I think once it is installed. It can't be anything but better than the stock windscreen, that's for sure....

I ended up ordering the Tall. The Standard may have worked but I am happy with the tall. It is huge difference from the stock windshield. Thanks for the post. I would not have made the purchase without your post.

Ordered the same. Have yet to receive mine. Looking forward to giving it a try, especially in this cold weather. Previous posts don't indicate any special tools, but I have to admit I typically turn into a tool when I have do much of anything mechanical. We'll see if I AM Murphy's Law..

I mentioned the only "special tool" you'll need. The kit comes with the proper sized torx key, but you'll have to provide the extra set of hands yourself.

Just installed a high aeroflow windscreen. Thanks to all who contributed to this thread, it was very helpful. I ordered the windscreen in early December but aeroflow called to let me know they were having issues with their materials supply and that it would be mid January before I would receive it. True to their word, it showed up this week. Installation is as easy as it gets and I had no problems doing it without help.

I'm trying to attach 3 pictures to show the stock shield vs aeroflow before it was installed. Surprisingly not a huge difference in length but the aeroflow is wider at several points. The other two pictures show it installed, the last one really illustrates how the windscreen is curved at the top, that design I'm sure will help. Going to go for a ride tomorrow, given the low temperatures I'm really looking forward to testing the screen. Thanks again.

Rode about 50 miles on Saturday in 35 degree weather with 15-20 mph winds and the windscreen was great. First thing I noticed was how much more I could hear the engine, especially at highway speeds, as the windscreen does a great job of deflecting the air and reducing wind noise. At high speeds and in the right wind conditions I did notice a brief feeling of the wind catching the windscreen like it would a sail on a sailboat. I felt the wind sort of push my steering a little. I had never felt that before with the stock screen but I'm a new rider so maybe it's not that uncommon. In either case, it didn't really bother me because it was very brief, didn't happen regularly and again it was only under certain conditions.

Another observation is that there is a minor visual distortion at the point where the windscreen begins to angle forward to create the deflective lip at the top (see my 3rd picture above for side view). You could ask how can you say it's a great windscreen and have this issue but I really want to emphasize that it only comes into view for a brief second and when your eyes or head position, which are constantly changing, are at the perfect angle to see the distortion. I never noticed it when looking straight forward, more if I was looking down at a pothole coming up for example. I'm 6'1" so all of this, I would guess, would depend on your height as well.

Lastly, I wanted to see what it was like to lower windscreen and see how different it would feel and found that the power windscreen was not working. With the stock windshield I always rode at the tallest setting so it has been months since I've tried to lower it so I'm not sure if it stopped working before this and timing is just coincidental or if the extra weight of the new screen is the problem (which I doubt because gravity would certainly help it to go down at least). Anyone else have this problem? Will I have to reinstall stock windshield before taking it to my dealer so as to not have warranty issues? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I like to turn in my mirrors when I park my bike in the garage but I have to lower my screen all the way down or the mirrors will hit the screen, even when the screen is all the way down the mirrors still rub the edge of the screen when I turn them in. Have you tried turning in your mirrors with the new screen?
