Am I looking at a 35kw C 650 GT ?

Hi all, I'm Phil, and I'm new here. First post.

I went and looked at an alleged "2017" C 650 GT yesterday, and took it for a test drive. I've never driven one previously, but it sure didn't feel like 60 h.p. to me. ( My '16 Burgman 650 feels significantly more powerful by comparison)

Could it be that the owner was running low-octane gas? Could the belt and rollers be worn enough at 18,000 kilometers to affect acceleration?

Could it be that I've stumbled across a 35kw (45 h.p.) low-power model? (I'm an American located in Portugal. The C 650 GT that I drove yesterday is here in Portugal too.) The bike's current owner said the bike was imported into Portugal from France, one year ago.

The owner claims its a 60 h.p. model, but he has nothing to substantiate that claim. Can I somehow decode the VIN to find out whether I'm dealing with the neutered model?

I can't call the BMW dealership and give them the VIN, as it's a Sunday here in Portugal. Tomorrow is a Portuguese holiday, so dealerships will be closed.

Anyone know how I can tell if I rode a low-powered version?

Thanks,
Phil

You could simply do a '0 to 100' (kph) test using an app on your phone and it should match the specs for one of the two variants. That or, if you don't have accsss to that bike anymore, test drive a known 60 hp one and see if it matches the one you tested yesterday.

Turns out the bike I rode was a 2016, manufactured in late '15, so it was probably one of the very early Gen II bikes. The owner had listed the wrong year and mileage in his ad. (...and I drove 2 hours to look at it) Bike was poorly maintained and very worn and dirty. Original, very worn tires, dirty oil, probably the original air filter, etc. I ended up running a VIN check to find out the true manufacturing date, and engine power. It did in fact have the 60 h.p. engine.

I guess it was slow because it was 7 years old and poorly maintained. Oh well, on to the next one....
