BEST bang for your BUCK...Dr. Pulley Sliders for your variator

Your dealer may have installed the sliders wrong. They must go in in one direction, whereas with the original BMW ones I don't think it matters any. So if this is the first time the tech had to install dr Pulley rollers then s/he may have put them in incorrectly. I remember installing them in my Honda 300sHi and it wasn't immediately apparent.
I've been reading this thread with interest but I think I'll pass, both on the rollers as well as the HIT clutch, mainly because I am very happy with the stock performance. It's plenty fast for me. Also, my experience with a HIT clutch in my Honda 300sHi was not that good, and I will swap it back to original.

As someone who's had a stock 2014 Sport for 6,000 miles, then had 28g Dr. Pulley sliders installed for another 6k miles, and now has a 2016 Sport similar to yours, I can say you're not missing anything, IMO.

The changes BMW made to the 2016-2020 models addressed the issue that riders like me were trying to address with the sliders -- slow get-off from the line, mustering up passing speeds for urban traffic (think 20-40 mph).

I liked the difference that Dr. Pulley sliders made for my 2014, and would recommend them to anyone with a 2012-2015 C650, and the 2016-onward bikes have what was missing in the previous model, and don't need much more in that department.

Now, if you're talking a whole CVT makeover with new variatior, clutch and custom rollers/weights, that opens up a world of possibilities, but comes with several cans of worms for dialing it in and keeping it happy. I'll leave that to the folks who race these things. :)

Thanks for your input guys!
Yeah I was happy with the stock rollers performance too and I don’t know why I purchased the dr pulley ones:) I’m not an aggressive rider at all and this bothers me now. You can definitely feel the power but riding slow from 20-40mph is terrible. Feels like you are stuck in one gear and disengages too early, for me at 14-15mph. I live in NYC and ride here is bumper to bumper:)
I was just trying to figure out if the dealer installed them correctly but it seems everything is right.

Which NYC dealer installed them?

BMW of Manhattan did mine perfectly in 2019, and I'm pretty sure I was the first installation they'd done (Rodney there said that they checked a video to make sure they had it correct before they sealed everything up).

Anything's possible with regard to your installation needing adjustment, but I also recall what you're talking about with the low-speed "disengage." How I handled it was just keeping the throttle ever-so-slightly cracked at low speeds/during deceleration (coming up to lights, rolling up on backed-up traffic, etc.). The engine braking would still engage as the CVT ratios down, but not get totally starved at the end.

I did it in NJ Cross country BMW. Yeah, I know Rodney very well:)) I used to go there for the past 5 years. First time went to Nj as the quote they gave me was half price. Much better experience. I’ll go back this week and ask them to test drive and see if that’s normal. I think I just don’t like the high revving, maybe I’ll go back to the stock rollers.

OK so after all the tickering and endless amounts of plastic to take off and put back on I finally had a test ride with the Dr. Pulley bits in my 2014 CGT. Maybe I had hubble expectations (my term for setting your sites way too high) but the difference between stock and this is very minimal in my opinion. Definitely a little bit snappier when you get on it but the low end start from a stop...really not changed much. You still have to give it loads of throttle to get the pig moving. Overall I am happy with it and certainly will not go through the trouble to put it back to stock but kind of a debbie downer for me.
