Bought PDF Shop Manual For C 400 GT on eBay

If anyone's interested, I received a thumb drive with the C 400 GT shop manual a couple of days ago. This is the one I bought, via eBay:

(If the link becomes obsolete at some point, the heading is "BMW C 400 GT K08 WORKSHOP C400GT SERVICE MANUAL ON USB," from a seller called "digitalgarage-es," in Spain, I believe, and currently with 100% positive feedback.)

The manual is a 223MB, 842-page, PDF file. I don't believe it's a scan, as the pages are clear as a bell, the text is searchable, etc. Most pages have a red seller notice at the bottom, and some have a different but non-intrusive watermark. I've attached a screen grab I just did of a portion of page 802, for instance (which I'm interested in, because I may want to add a brake flasher out back to my new scoot).

I first scanned the thumb drive for viruses; no problem. Oh, and you also get, as a "bonus," the owner's manual (3MB, 248 pages) and the uncrating documentation (4MB, 51 pages).

So I'm reporting that I'm pleased with the $40 purchase, and it took about two weeks to arrive.

I just stumbled across a thread on my Honda forum that references BMW's manuals omitting the wiring diagram. Is that accurate? Thanks!

I just bought that one too. After looking through it, I don't believe it is quite up-to-date for my 2023 C400GT. Still, it's good information and covers a lot that I will be able to use.

Well, there does not appear to be a wiring diagram in the PDF version I bought (see first post in this thread), and that looks to be a full copy. The only info related to wiring in that manual seems to be the routing of the harness, and some test procedures.

When I was wiring up the Skene P3-TS lights out back, I had to use a test probe, stuck in the back of connectors, to identify all the wires. In my gallery, in the caption for this pic, I noted my findings:

But, yep, that's a far cry from having a factory wiring diagram. Such diagrams have been present -- typically in fold-out pages -- in the paper manuals I've had for some other bikes.

Thanks. Do you know if reliable versions of the C400GT diagrams are available? I like to have them to plan my approach. I see some versions but unclear if they are reliable.

I don't know. I never looked for any wiring diagrams until a few minutes ago, when your question made me curious. And I came up with a blank just now.

It is a bit of pain to stick a probe into all the positions in the back of a connector, but I've identified much of that in that pic's caption. So, yep, an official diagram would be nice. And up front I used that sat nav plug. Oh, and I added a BMW/DIN/Powerlet outlet to the side of the bike, going directly to the battery, i.e., bypassing all existing circuitry.

What sort of electrical farkle did you have in mind, or are you just asking about this on general principles?

General principles. I haven’t purchased a replacement for the Xmax yet but leaning towards the BMW. I’m not planning a ton of farkles if I pull the trigger; Skene front and rear, driving lights, belt oiler, power outlets, etc . Nothing complicated. The diagrams and planning are just part of the process I enjoy. I’m competent in vehicle electrical work and always use a meter too. Creature of habit I guess is what is driving me to want access to the diagram.

The oiler comment was added as humor!

Do you have a wiring diagram for the seat? My bike was stolen and recovered within 30 minutes. A brown and red cable have been cut from somewhere - I cannot find where from and the seat will not unlock via the button under the ignition button.
Can only unlock it via the key manually under the seat - very annoying…

Otherwise if anyone can guide me with anywhere I need to look to identify what happened and where!

This MAY help you out, um, er, slightly, anyway.

As I mentioned, there are no wiring diagrams to be found in my PDF shop manual. However, I did some searching -- the text is searchable, and in this case I eventually settled upon the search term servomotor. That's the term for the motor that pulls (or twists, or somehow manipulates) the cable that opens the seat lock in back.

What I found is that this motor is located on the right side of the bike (as you're sitting on it, i.e., the throttle side), and that, reasonably enough, it has a cable supplying power to it. So that cable is over on the right side, too, of course.

Here are screen grabs I just took of two pages from the shop manual, which is all the detail (or lack thereof) that I can find:

What I can also tell you is there is a large bundle on the left side rear, in about the same place. I messed with the left-side bundle last year, when installing some Skene lighting out back. Here's a pic from my gallery, related to that work. I've just circled the two halves of the stock wire-loom connector back there, just for educational purposes. As I say, this is NOT the side you'll be messing with, but I can confirm that the servo motor is NOT on this side.

I can also confirm that that bundle has all the wires for the license-plate light and the taillights and the turn signals (all of which I discovered without any diagrams, but instead just used a test-ligjht probe. Anyway, here's my pic of the other -- left -- side:

So it's sort of good news, I think, that over on the right side, the servo motor side, the only part of the stock wiring harness that should appear anywhere in the back half of the bike would be the wire pair that runs to the seat-opening servo motor. Put another way, if there are any wires over on the right side rear, they should be the wires you're looking for, i.e., the wires that were cut or yanked out, or something.

I hope this helps you out, points you in the right direction, etc.

Sorry for the delay in saying thank you. Just saw this and it is appreciated.
