C 400 GT: Added USB Port and Garage-Door Opener Button to Dash Area

Remember that PDF shop manual I bought on eBay and wrote about a few days ago? I made extensive use of it over the last two days.

I added two "external," i.e., dash-mounted, devices: a 3BR Powersports Panel TAPP USB port, and a momentary-contact switch.

The USB port is for powering my GoPro, which I typically use to record my day trips (and which, therefore, also serves as a front-facing dashcam, should anything untoward happen) and occasional tours (for instance, my wife and I partook of two Edelweiss tours last month, and I had a memory card for each day's ride). And unlike on those tours, I don't want to squish a USB cable through a closed cubby door.

The switch is to activate a Mo-Door garage-door opener that I just removed from my (for-sale) Burgman 650.

I have a detailed write-up -- pics, explanatory captions, links -- of these two additions in my gallery, starting with this image:

And here's one of those pics, which shows the final result:

Hi Bill,

I'd be interested in more information about how you installed your garage door opener. What can you share?

I see it all in great detail now on your pages. Thanks for that!
Well, if there's anything that's not clear there, or something you'd like more detail on, please let me know, as I'll be happy to elaborate on anything in there.

For anyone else interested, in my gallery -- with pics, captions, and links -- if you start at this particular image, and click or swipe your way for the next dozen or so images, you should get a pretty good idea of what's going on:

I like the USB port, great idea. I put a dual USB port on my BMW R1200RT and Ducati Multi but haven't thought about it in the C400GT. It would be great for charging my phone. Thanks for posting!

I assume you're talking about an external USB port, e.g., when using the phone for navigation, that sort of thing, correct? I ask, because -- at least on my '22 C 400 GT -- there's a USB port (two, actually, I think) inside the right cubby, for charging a device (and a rubber mat, to cushion it). You're aware of that, right?

In terms of that external port, I've been using that same 3BR Powersports product on a bunch of bikes -- I think that was my fourth order of that product -- and I'm very pleased with it. That was a pretty easy mod, if you're not averse to taking off a bunch of the front tupperware.

BTW, I think I noticed in some other post that you have an iPhone. If you're using that for nav, you may want to be careful about how you mount it, in terms of vibration isolation. I blathered on about that in a CE-04 thread a few weeks ago; in case you missed it and are curious:

I'm referring to the sub-topic, about halfway through that post, 3) Be careful of vibrations for some phones:
