In 2017 I purchased new a 650GT and this has now done 24,000 miles (40,000Km). During a resent investigation into excessive vibration, that was traced to the rear wheel ball bearing. It became apparent the final drive chain links were stiff and contributing to the issue.
The chain is not worn but all the links are tight and some very tight. It would appear the O rings have expanded and partially seized the chain. Why BMW fitted an O ring chain in an oil bath chain case I will never know.
Does anyone have any knowledge of the typical chain life or experienced the chain links becoming stiff?
