I have been hearing a clicking sound coming from the right side when i take off. It does not last long. But for the first let's say
5 minutes after i take off from a stop This started just last wk. when i take off it will not last long maybe about 30 seconds.
I do not haul butt when i take off from a stop or stop sign. It gradually gets a little loud then fades away after 30 seconds For about
4 times i take off it does that. Is this a problem?

Could be the timing chain tensioner

Hi Greg it's the timing chain. Mine does this also. It's been a recall item as they have failed in the past. You should be able to log on to the BMW site in your country, and see what recall have been fixed. Mine is a 2012 model, has had tge tensioner changed and still does it from cold. I find if I warm it up for a few mins before taking of it doesn't happen.

My bike is a 2016 model and i hope that it is NOT that. I will go online and check from a BMW dealer to see
IF it is under recall. I bought that bike in May rom a private seller and he did NOT have the brake hose recall
replaced. So i had that done asap at n cost. I will call my honda dealer that sells BMW and works on them as well
in the morning . So i will find out then
Thanks for the info i will find out this weekend

It's an hours hour job if it is! I replaced my 2016 one last year
Cost me £60.00 for the new tensioner
Better to be safe than sorry

Don't expect much help from BMW

Update
So i went to the wild west motoplex on i 10 in Houston. Talked with the service reps and they said IF it was a
timing chain issue my bike would run rough. They asked how many miles i have on the bike i said 5.300
miles on it. They said it sounds like something else. They said IF it gets worse bring it in and we will look into
it. My bike does not run rough at all.

My 650 Sport developed this ticking issue from cold start after about 2,600 miles. The sound would not start immediately but after say a minute of running, then go away after a couple minutes. It ran 100% great all throughout, no difference. Took it to BMW and it was the tensioner they replaced under warranty.
So your tech was wrong about it always running bad when it's the timing chain tensioner.
