(UPDATE: THIS IS NO LONGER FOR SALE)

Just listed my '13 GT on Facebook Marketplace and thought I'd post here as an FYI courtesy ....

I am selling my car and thinking it would be nice to try life with only a bike for awhile. Even though my '13 GT runs like a Swiss watch, it's approaching 20,000 miles. So lacking a car, a newer bike seems prudent.

Right now I am in discussions about buying a pristine 2016 BMW C650 GT (Gen 2.0) with 12,000 miles ... asking $6990. If that fails, I test-rode a 2021 Kymco AK550 this morning and would feel good owning that ... asking $8990.

The Kymco has bluetooth phone connection including Maps for GPS, 15-inch tires and ABS with TPMS and weighs 100 lbs. less than the GT. It felt really good, solid and substantial. The GT is clearly a cruiser ready for hours on the highway. This Kymko was silky smooth at 70 mph and also nimble as heck -- much more fun to zip around doing errands.

The backstory ... got a call last night at 3:15 a.m. from my youngest son Henry, who "turned a corner too fast and took out a pole." He totaled the front end of his Mazda 3 and doesn't have liquid funds to replace it, so I am giving him my red 2011 Toyota Prius ... asking $0.00.

That led to "let's see what life is like with only a bike." It's basically summer every day in South Florida. And while it's not comfortable to ride in 90-degree temps, or heavy rain (or Cat 5 hurricanes), I like the simplicity of just a bike -- and saving $100 every month on car insurance doesn't hurt. I can always buy another cage.

Got an offer for $5,500 first night. Asking price is $5,850. I'm going to hold out for a bit more. Prices in Florida for houses and vehicles are insane right now.

Makes sense and I know your bike is well sorted. Check cycle trader. There was a dealer down in your area advertising that Kymco for 6995.

Thanks. The Big Easy isn't exactly in my area, New Orleans is 800+ miles away. Interesting, though, to see how much room dealers have to play with.

That could make for some advantageous negotiations. I would need a ridiculously good price to buy since resale value won't be nearly as good as a BMW. Also, not that I use dealers a lot, but it looks like Kymco has about six in the U.S. On the other hand, I already have a pdf of the Service Manual and can get parts through amazon ... which means Jeff Bezos can continue to fly into almost-space on his penis-shaped rocket ship.

I bet if another Kymco dealer in Florida has it for $6995, I can get the Kymco dealer 0.6 miles from my front door to match it.

Question is, do I really want one? I woke up this morning thinking it is a terrible plan to give my son my Prius. I'll give him cash for a down payment instead. So I can keep the older, well-kept BMW.

Still, a 2021 ride is intriguing. I may drop by the Kymco dealer and have a little conversation ....

Buying newer scoots is a tough call right now. Kinda glad I was able to get my 650 last year since they dont make em anymore. Fingers crossed they worked out all the bugs by the 19 model year. The 400 scoots dont impress me sorry to say. Too many issues and a fully made in China product, even it it is to BMW specs. The Kymco design to me seems a bit over the top, guess I like the more conservative lines of the Beemer.

I just wish Honda would bring over some of the scoots the sell elsewhere, then we would have some good choices. About the only ones for sale near me are the adv 150 and pcx.

Totally agree Evil Spock. If I could get my hands on that Forza 750 with the DCT really I wouldn't need anything else. I sure hope they import it to the US.

Slept on it again, always a good policy for me, and just not feeling the Kymco. I imagined myself walking out to it for a ride to the beach in the morning and ... meh. No excitement. Plenty of good left brain fodder, to be sure: TPMS, bluetooth, 15" wheels, ABS, LED, powerful and nimble, good price, it's sensible.

I just can't warm up to it. I hop on the BMW and yeah, not too hot, not too cold, that porridge is jussssssst right.

I would just keep your current bike. 20K miles is nothing and:
- you know what you have now - even new vehicles can have significant issues
- every transaction costs money (tax, fees, registration)
Just think of the 3.2 million mile Volvo P1800 and ride on!

I deleted the ad and will keep the bike.

I'm realizing it was an old ugly duckling I've fallen in love with. This was a trade-in at a Ducati dealership. I found it sitting in the back of their garage with cobwebs, a Gen 1.0 with too many miles, garish ///M stickers and filthy oil and brake fluid. It even had the only BMW color I actively dislike, platinum bronze. I bought it for $3900 and put $500** into it. That was four months and 4,000 miles ago. It's run like a champ since.

With an offer of $5,500 in hand, it was tempting to part with it for a nice little profit. That's been my jam since Christmas Eve 2016 when I bought a red 2003 Honda Silver Wing with 12,000 miles for $1,700. Only weeks before, I discovered maxi-scooters existed after walking by a BMW C650 GT in a dealership that stopped me in my tracks. "That ... looks ... like ... a ... big-a** automatic scooter." It was love at first sight. Since then, I had four Silver Wings, three Burgman 650's and this is my third C650 GT.

Just for grins and closure, I checked with the dude selling his 2016 GT for $6,990 (with 12,000 miles). A Gen 2.0 model would be nice. The bike looks clean as a whistle. The ad says "PRICE IS FIRM" and the guy verified that. He won't take a dime less. Well, good luck and God speed. Last year, I bought a black '17 650 GT with 1,232 miles for $7,000, or $10 more for WAY more bike, so he can park his PRICE IS FIRM where the sun doesn't shine.

It's intriguing to hear "20k miles is nothing." I will run with that and see how far and how trouble-free this bike can be. Next step is an oil change at 21k. I will put new gear oil in at the same time, not due until 24,000 miles but a little early won't hurt. That involves removing all the plastic, loosening the center stand and dropping the muffler. It's a big job but now I'm excited about it. This bike has been good to me. I will continue being good to it. Still don't like the color, but it's growing on me.

** for anyone curious about updating a bike like this, here's what I did with the $500: New drive belt (Mitsuboshi), BMW variator holder tool and t-handle T-30 screwdriver for that one tricky belt case bolt. New MOTUL oil and BMW filter with matching filter wrench. New BMW coolant. New Prestone brake fluid and EBC HH brake pads front and rear. New Denso iridium spark plugs. New YUASA battery. One new CVT filter and cleaned CVT filter #2. New K&N air filter. New chain oil and chain rail #2.

I have been riding scooters n motorcycles all my life it is cheaper then having a car. The down side
is that you can not carry big objects.
