For those who get throttle cramp

Hello All. I started riding again in 2011 after 27 years. My Knee injury left me with less than 90 degrees of movement in my right knee. I started with a 50cc moped. It was great , I could park it at the bike rack next to my Building and did,nt have to walk 5 blocks from a parking garage. Then the questions started. Hey man when did you get your DUI. Constantly getting cut off in traffic. Next the 150cc moped, not fast enough. Then the Honda 250 elite. It was plenty fast enough but too much power for those 10 inch wheels.

Then one day Mom says, Honey why don't you see if you can get on a regular motorcycle so I can go with you. That's right she was giving me the green light to buy a big toy. Off to the dealership I went. Tried the cruisers, Yamaha, Honda and the like. once I got on them just could not bend the leg and be comfortable. Then a sales man came up to me and said why don't you try a maxi scooter. The thing was right in front of me when I walked in, I thought it was a Goldwing at first. 64 inch wheelbase step through with a nice big complete floorboard. 2 hours later I was the owner of a new Maxi Scooter.

Then it started after the first 70 miles or so, Throttle hand cramps. I bought a brake away throttle lock. It Worked well. Then a fellow scooter man Handed me a 1.00 7/8" O-ring. It goes between the throttle grip and the outer end cap. You have to remember to roll the throttle closed to slow down but that is still less demanding than constantly upshifting or downshifting all the time. I use it on both my scooters and rarely use the brake away.

There are 2 to choose from and they are Caterpillar part numbers. 8M4991 and 8M5266. Google those numbers and you,ll find them.

Currently I have been using a Crampbuster to relieve the sore hands. I've not thought of the 0-ring solution but its so dead simple I'm sure it works a charm. At least on the C-series bikes I can say that the Throttlemeister and the Kaoko also seem to work well for folks.

I have the Kaoko throttle lock. It works great and even a pure non-mechanic like me can install it.

I put a Crampbuster on my GT, I've put them on several bikes I've owned. They work well and are reasonably cheap at ten bucks. I do modify them a bit. I buy the narrow one and cut the tongue off about half way. That leaves enough to rest the hand on but not so long it will catch on one's gloves. Makes for a lot more comfortable ride. One reason I like this type is that if you should go down it's not going to hold the throttle open so there's no risk of the rear wheel grinding through your leg if you should be unlucky enough to get caught under it.

i had read this thread the other day and took in all comments on the go cruise control. tbh i have always had an opinion on anything that could alter or restrict the throttle movement but i have suffered with raynaud's disease since i was a teenager and i can get numb and pumped up hands and fingers just like white finger so this devise seems to make sense. so today i have ordered one from ebay and i am quite looking forward to seeing how it might help me. i do know over here in the uk straight roads are few and far between but on the motorway it should help me. thanks guy's for the idea, i hope it helps.

I use the cramp busters on both sides of the handle bars makes a good hand rest for your left hand makes a big difference when you do long rides and they are so easy to adjust even when you are riding, well worth the $20.00 for the two busters.

mine came through today, it wont hold the twistgrip so not happy. it was a cheaper version and hasnt the rubber band with it so that might be the problem.

Mine works surprisingly well. I bought mine from Amazon. It does have the rubber band and is quite sturdy.

mine seems to have no strength in it to hold the twistgrip. i have just messaged the seller.
i should have spent more and bought the real thing!!!

Personally I don't like to use anything that restricts the throttle from self-closing. Sure you can override a friction holder but only if you have your hand on the grip. An accident or a tank slapper might make that difficult to do.
