Helmets - again!!

I know helmets are a topic of many threads in the past but I can't find anything on a specific question I have. I wear prescription glasses and they don't sit well in most helmets. I tried a modular helmet yesterday and it as better for whatever reason. Does anyone have the curse of having to wear glasses and have any thoughts to pass on?

I wear them all the time, but they have really thin titanium frames. Mt SHOEI Qwest is a full-face helmet, with built-in grooves on the inner padding that accommodate the glass frames. I almost can't tell the glasses are on when riding!

I'm wear spectacles and full face lids (modular) exclusively. The C3 Schuberth has caused me zero discomfort. God awful expensive but quiet and comfy. As I understand, Schuberth buckets don't work with all craniums.
as usual... your mileage may vary.

Silly thought but... when it comes time to replace your glasses, do you bring your helmet with you to the eyeglass store? That way you can check the frames out with your helmet BEFORE you buy. That's what I do...

I ride with glasses. I use a Nolan N44. Love the helmet because it has the widest field of vision - almost like wearing a 3/4 helmet. I find my glasses with thicker rims work seating comfortably with the helmet on better than my flimsier spectacles.

I have the N43 Trilogy (the predecessor to the N44). In the summer I wear it as a 3/4 helmet with sunglasses around town. If I'm doing a long highway trip (such as heading to Indianapolis for the MotoGP races) I'll convert it back to a full face, but once I'm in town I change it back to a 3/4 helmet. Works just fine. I'm still kicking around the idea of the N44. Sadly, I find the styling of that helmet HIDEOUS... Plus, I'd have to get ANOTHER bluetooth system for it since my NCOM won't change over from the N43 as it did from my N103.

I have a Gmax modular and a Shoei RF1200 (full face). Both work well with the glasses I wear. I keep my glasses on when putting on/off the modular and find it easy to put the glasses on after I am wearing the Shoei as there is a break in the temple padding.

Here's the Gmax with some big ass plastic frame sunglasses I bought when last out to S Cal. No discomfort even though I am at the outter limits of a large (59-60cm...I am more like 60.5).

Maybe you should visit the same "optometrist" I visited at Venice Beach. You can find his shop in the Medical District right beside the place wear all the physicians wear green. (Medical marijuana prescriptions...plus free brownies.

If you could do an open face helmet, there are companies that will make you prescription goggles.

It's funny but I feel vulnerable without a full face. Bought a Bell Mag 9 open face when I started out and it's been on once. Lotsa rain here for next few days so will spend some time at the dealership getting something. Store has about 200 different helmets so should be able to get something.

I'm never going to wear a simple brain bucket ever again. Full face for me or I'm not riding. I shared a video on a classic scooter hooligan forum of a kid south of the border after an accident. Ill spare you the details, but let's just say his face, was just not there anymore.

Same here. I've seen way too many videos of people kissing the asphalt while wearing open face helmets. The only time I typically will wear an open face helmet is when I am on Martha's Vineyard where we have a 50cc Vespa and half helmets. Otherwise, I'm pretty much full face all the time now. Fortunately, my Nolan n44 feels like a open face with the lid up so it gives me plenty of air on those hot days without necessarily sacrificing safety.

Ended up getting a Shoei Neotec today. Looked at others but this helmet fit so well and glasses went on very easily. One other helmet at a fraction of the price was also very good - HJC IS Max II. In the end I got 20% off which sealed the deal. After following a rider in my car recently at night who had a glowing silver hi viz helmet that's what I got. Yes I like many when I started riding bought that beautiful mat black helmet and soon realized it was very low viz!

I wear a shark Evo which is somewhat large on the outside and gives plenty of space for fairly wide glasses. The Evo is DOT certified as an open or full face helmet. I only ride full face but it is nice to pop the chin bar off for fueling or talking.

I got an email from Bell helmets. It stated that they are getting closer to having a location to scan heads in the New England area. I was going to buy a new helmet this spring, and will now wait until I can get scanned, and maybe get a helmet that actually fits my oval head comfortably.

That sounds like a great idea. There has to be a better way than spending hours trying on various makes and sizes. For the most part store staff try their best but they simply cannot tell what the fit really is like and all too often the right size is in between sizes.

I too have a Nolan N44 and purchased their B5 N-Com system. I love how open yet protective it is. I configure my N44 with Visor, Chin Bar and sunglasses.

I would be afraid after the scan that I would discover nothing was inside. Would I have to take my tinfoil hat off for the scan?
