I got hit!

Went for a ride of 60 miles today and stopped on the way back to go into Starbucks. I parked about 100 yds away as there was not a closer spot. Then about 20 minutes later I got back to my bike and it looked like someone drove into or backed into me while I was away. The right hand panel was off and the bike was on its side. The panel just below is broken off in a couple of spots too so I likely have an expensive repair. Went into Home Depot and bought some tape to put it somewhat together again but what a bummer on what had been a good ride. Of course nobody was around to say anything!

I am sorry to hear this news. I am glad you were not on it and you did not physically get hurt. I have heard of this happening before and it really sucks.
If you contact the police or mall management there may be film footage (you never know) good luck

Contacted mall office but camera angle didn't capture it as there were quite a few large SUVs and mini vans blocking the area. At least I will know where to park in future so that it's in view.

That sucks. I swear, it is almost impossible to have nice sh*t these days. Accidents happen but when someone blatantly does something to someone else's property and doesn't even leave a note... Karma I as motherfu...you know. Hope some Final Destination stuff happens to them.

That sucks man. Sorry to hear that. Goes without saying that even though you are aggravated, the damage didn't involve an injury. You're looking at around $600 to replace both fairings.

I'm in the process of replacing those two front panels myself. When I was doing some work on the bike over the early winter, I took off all four front fairings. I found that BMW service had snapped off some of the tabs that attach the panels to the body and had variously glued and tie wrapped them back in place. I called them on it and got a "you can't prove we did it" response. Not going to name the dealer on a public forum as I'm taking legal action against them. Took the bike to another, responsible dealer and got a quote of about 600 bucks for the two right upper/lower fairings. They are on order now.

These ain't cheap bikes to acquire or maintain, but I love mine even if she is an expensive date.

I went to the main dealer in town today and with tax and everything it was $560 Cdn which I think is close to $425 US. I looked at some fairly comparable Suzuki parts and it was way less.

I feel your pain. Even the badly designed fuel flap was $75.00. Don't ask me how I know.:(

I've been paranoid about this and almost cracked it more than once. Went to hardware store and got a spring that fits down in the "socket" where there is a pin like piece of the flap. I'm sure you know what I mean. It takes a second to re-negotiate the spring to make sure its set each time I close it but one thing for sure: If it is opened it "boings" out and there's no way it will break off by the original poor design. I saw the new ones have some other spring that does the same thing but differently.

Yes the 2014 had a spring loaded cap. I went to my local dealer and bough the spring and cap for this modification on my 2013. It cost about $8 for the spring and $8 for the cap done in 10 minutes had to drill a small hole that is totally hidden and works wonderfully.

Can you post a picture? Maybe I can upgrade my ghetto method.
