Map (or Route Sheet) Holder

A very popular kind of event around here is the Poker Run. Everyone gets a route sheet to follow, and you ride to various checkpoints to draw cards, throw dice, whatever. At the end of the event, trophies are awarded to best hand, food is served, there is often a band playing, etc.

With my regular motorcycles, I can place the route sheet in the clear plastic window on my tank bag, or just use masking tape to tape it to the top of my tank. Obviously, that really isn't an option on our scooters with their step-through frames. Has anyone come up with an ingenious way of mounting a map or route sheet so it can be easily read while riding, but not knocked off or torn away by the wind?

I’ve tried a couple tunnel bags but they were all too big and in the way but I decided to try a new one.

I purchased the Givi EA106B a rather small tank bag (6 liters) to try and put some items more in reach when seated. Not sure how and if this will work but it does have a smaller clear window for phone or possible map. So far it seems to fit OK in the tunnel area but I have not mounted it or tried it out.

I can let you know and send a photo of it in place. It may be too low to easily see when riding.

So really not sure how this will work for your purpose and even mine. It fits ALMOST perfect in tunnel area if it were 1/2 inch shorter would be perfect but doesn’t sit perfectly flat as nose in front a bit long, may conform better with time and packing. Again may be too low and far away to use while riding to see the map and clear pocket maybe better for phone, GPS or small tablet. I did hit it when getting on but I am a shorter rider. Will try some metal phone mount plates to use magnets to mount and maybe find an additional safety location to attach as well. If I can easily attach it once I get on bike that might also be an option.

Yeah, that looks like I'd have to take my eyes completely off the road to look. On a standard motorcycle tankbag, it's just a quick glance downward because it places the route sheet closer to my face. I was thinking of something that may clip to the handlebars and hold the route sheet sandwiched in acrylic, but it would also have to be sturdy enough to not flap around in the wind. Surprised no one has built anything like that.

How about using a RAM mount like I have on my handlebars (pictured) and either mount a flat plate attached to a ball mount or some sort of tablet mount to hold a map in a plastic protector. That would place the map in a good position to view similar to a GPS unit. Imagine a map in a plastic case in place of my phone using Waze as an idea of what you could do.

Could always clip you map onto something like this. Made to fit a RAM mount. May be too big depending on space you have available or want to use on handlebars. Place map in plastic waterproof sleeve.
