Top 10 Places To Ride In North America

3 are here in CA; Crazy enough, I could do their #4 and #1 in the same day. But why rush. I do have plans to take the Pacific Coast Highway this year; spring or summer. A buddy of mine spends time at his parents "vacation home" at the south end of the PCH route. He was going to do that ride over New Year's week; I told him to wait for me.

We could leave our houses in Fresno, ride to Monterey (less than 3 hours away) then head south and crash at his parents house before riding home the next day. We could take ride #4 home, CA route 58, but again that would be better for another memory.

This is the reason I added the C600 to my garage; didn't feel like these roads would be as enjoyable on my Aprilia.

I've done three of those roads, but any article that claims to the top ten best roads in North America and DOESN'T include the Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia is HIGHLY suspect in my book.

Here is a photo I took up on the Cabot Trail with a group of friends from my "Pre-scooter" days. That's me giving my friend Bob the "Devil's Horns:"

My K1200LT is partially blocked, but you can see the Scottish flag sticker on the trunk. That is for my wife, the redhead in the picture to the right of Bob. The Filipino flag sticker is completely hidden in this shot.

The article was probably written by someone with limited travels. I agree, the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia should be on the list. My favorite ride is any road I can get to from my driveway.

Vermont Route 100 is another WONDERFUL route. Route 112 through Starksboro is a challenging, twisty route as well.

Rt.302 through Crawford notch down towards N Conway and cross over on Bear Notch rd to rt 112 towards Lincoln and on to 3/93 through Franconia Notch towards Twin Moutain and back on 302 south to North Conway this is about 100 mile circuit. A lot of places to stop, great views and places to hike if your into it, We usually do about 3 to 4 hikes while we are there for a week, We have been going to this area for about 20+ years great roads for biking. By the way they repaved a good part of the Kanc this past Sept. Where all the wash board was.

Well, as we know, these lists are subjective. In fact, I would take the 115 mile one way trip along California 49 (rode it 3 weeks ago) again before going back to CA 58, which I did a 18 months ago.

The thing about route 58 is the fact that it is almost like a racetrack. Hardly any traffic and offers every kind of riding possible from tight turns to triple digit if you like. and it is what, 75 miles long. Anyway, good riding is good riding.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my Yankee friends.
