Riding Gear...What do you recommend

I am looking for a 3 or 4 season jacket. Considering the myriad of choices I was wondering if anyone has any favorite jackets that they could recommend.

I am looking into Waterproof "Adventure" or "Touring" style jackets that also has removable liner for covering many seasons dry and wet.

Here is a list of what I've been looking at...any information on what works or what doesn't work would be appreciated. Is the BMW gear worth the Money??

$600.00 or so is the absolute top of my budget so Belstaf, Rukka, Klim and the like are just too expensive.

BMW Tourgaurd

Olympia AST2

Firstgear Kilimanjaro

Motoport Challenger

Thanks

I spent $429 on the safety yellow BMW all season jacket. On the eighth use, the zipper pull FELL OFF! What I mean by that is simply this. I went to zip the jacket and the metal inside the plastic zipper pull snapped off. The fit is nice, but the jacket isn't well made. For the money, I am not impressed. They are currently working a warranty repair which seemingly takes forever. Just my two cents. I have an Olympia jacket for 229 and I like it. Purchased in Florida.

I have used tour master products well made and not expansive and it doesn't fall apart. a 3 season jacket is about $150.00 and up, a Joe Rocket summer jacket (Kevlar mess and leather) is about 185.00 also well made.

After considerable forum reading (Those Adventure bike guys have a thread on just about everything) I think that I have decided on the Rev'it Everest GTX. This jacket is on a considerable closeout sale as its replacement (Rev'it Poseidon) about to hit the stores. Normally 899.00 it is now 530.00.

REV'IT! Everest GTX Jacket - RevZilla

I also endorse Tour Master products.

Wow that is a lot of money for a jacket I would suggest if there is a motorcycle meet where there would be a lot of vendors, that would be the best place to check out different makers of motorcycle gear and you would probably get a better deal on the jacket

I've read and read and looked and looked and considering the types of materials used, the different types of bonding, sewing, and whatnots...It's just darned expensive to get a garment that is really put together well. What I find value in is all the small details that add up. I would not pay $900.00 but I certainly think that at $530.00 its a fair price. I don't drive a car so I figure I need a jacket the price of a car to make my winter riding more enjoyable....lol.

I love the (now discontinued but still available) Nolan N-43e Trilogy helmet. Wear it as a full face in the rain and/or cold, convert it to an open face in the summer. Lightweight, quiet, and in full-face mode passes the ECE certification AS a full-face helmet.

Unfortunately, the N-44 helmet that replaces it is just butt-UGLY in my eyes. That just means you can probably get the N-43e Trilogy at clearance prices, though.

Hey Phil,

Please, let us know how the new helmet works and if you have a stock screen.

Thanks.

I'm 2 thumbs up on the Schuberth C3. Expensive...yes. I happened upon mine whilst I was financing my bike. The C3 went on world wide discount for about 5 days and I was able to snatch one up with my bike for 499.00 I think it was.

This is a very quiet helmet for a modular. I have the Bright Assed Orange which is very noticeable but not quite as High-lightery as the Yellow.

The design of the Schuberths have changed with the C3 to accommodate a wider range of heads. I find it to be snug but not overly tight. The flip up is easy to operate with gloves on. and first and foremost, its not very noisy. It has excellent chin curtains and padding to keep the buffeting to a min.

I also noticed something that I've never seen on any of my other lids before. There are two straps that run from the back of the neck to the ears through the padding. I found them when installing the Sena bluetooth. It makes for removing the padding a tad more involved but aids in the comfort and stability of the overall package. Those are the little things that I've noticed on this brain bucket that my other cheaper lids (AGV Modular) did not have.

Is it worth the money?? when financed with my bike...Hell Yes. Would I just fork out 6 or 7 hundred dollars out of my pocket for it...prob. not.

The AGV modular was a fine helmet for the cost...it just wasn't a Schuberth.

After comparing the Schuberth to the Nolan N103 I went with the Nolan. I saw no advantages of the PRICY C3 over the Nolan and for the price of the C3, I could get the Nolan WITH the N-COM bluetooth system installed and still put money back in my pocket. Schuberth is out of their minds with their pricing.

Your very right about the Schuberth pricing...$700.00 for a helmet should come with the bluetooth communicator as standard. It's just CRAZY expensive and I'm not sure why? its not even Snell approved as they do not agree with the construction elements of the Schuberth.

NO modular helmet has Snell approval, but I don't consider that very important. I find DOT/ECE compliance more realistic.

As an aside, the Nolan N43e helmet I mentioned in an earlier post does get approved (via ECE testing) as a full-face helmet with the jawpiece installed. None of the flip-up helmets on the market (including Nolan's) can make that claim.
