Side stand switch recall for 2013 model year

Since the recall article didn't mention a way to check if your bike is in the recall by serial number, would it be safe to assume that either BMW of North America or the dealer where we purchased the bike will notify us directly?

Spanky - the NHTSA documentation associated with this recall has the following:

Model Inclusive Dates of Manufacture Production Volume
2013 C600 Sport Nov 28, 2012 - Sep 16, 2013 103
2013 C650 GT Dec 3, 2012 - Sep 18, 2013 284

However when I called my dealer he said my bike (C650GT) WAS included in the recall - even though it was manufactured in September 2012.

Best ideal is probably contact the dealer yourself if you do not hear from them in the next few days.

In the meantime, don't wash the bike or ride in the rain... :)

My dealer did mine when I had it in for an oil change. Repeat: It is not the manufacturer as much as it is the dealer - at least for a non-mechanic such as myself.

Unless you're Doraemon and you laugh at the techs cause you already forgot more than they know.:D

In order for the recall to be satisfied, I believe it HAS to be done and checked off by the dealer. I suppose if you have a really good relationship with your dealership, they can give you the necessary parts to install but you'll probably have to return the old parts so they can verify the work had been done. Again, when the NHTSA issues the recall notice, they are bound by some legalities as to how it must be done...

Received letter from BMW Australia today dated 4 April advising of the "Safety Related Recall".

Called the dealer to arrange for the replacement and the always reliable service guy hadn't even heard about it. The dealer can't do anything until they are aware of the issue and have the parts on hand to do the job.

I've not received a letter, anyone in North America receive one? I'm thinking of calling the BMW customer service number. I'd like to think, no news is good news, but then again...

I have not received a letter. However, I called my dealer (Pensacola, Florida) and they looked up my VIN and said my 2013 C600 was part of the recall. I am bringing it in this Saturday. They said they have the part and it will take less than a half hour to complete.

I might do the same. When I first mentioned it to the dealer (shortly after my original post) they hadn't heard of the recall.

If the scooter is used by the police somewhere, will the side stand switch be different from ours, I would guess that it does not shut of the engine. If so ask for the police version.
When you get the part replaced ask your dealer if you can have the old part. If you want to play with the side stand switch to disengage the engine shut off.

Went by on Saturday. Took 30 minutes as predicted. Still never received a letter from BMW...

You know what? I never received a letter on this campaign either. And I'd never even heard of the luggage rack support replacement recall either. Only letter I ever received was the one informing me of the cam chain tensioner (and I never got the promised follow-up letter either).

Mine did not hit it was MFG 9/25/12. Called to find out for sure that is when I got the MFG date.

Rumor is they being BMW changed switch MFG's some time in Oct of 12 and did not get the spec for the switch correct. This also has hit several other model BMW bikes.
