Technical Manual from "BMW University"

One of the members of another BMW Scooter forum (on Google +) that I visit, found an excellent technical manual (not a service manual) on the C series scooters that BMW has published, most likely, for internal use. It has excellent cutaways and a good overall technical discussion into the design of these scooters. (Plus some marketing stuff).

I've learned a lot about our scooters from reading this 30 page manual and have an added respect for the engineering and thought that went into the design of the bikes. Enjoy.

Excellent. Thanks for posting this.

Now with the internet there is no excuse for a company not to provide this kind of information (and a shop/service manual) on their web site. They can simply make it a link that anyone can access. Yes it is probably true that the majority of customers won't care, but many will, and those who don't can just click back out.

Thanks! I saw this on the Google community as well and read through it the other night. The cutaways are definitely awesome and explain everything I've wondered about.

Thanks for sharing. I am definitely NOT a hands on technical rider. I just know my 650 is a blast to ride. Maybe this will help me understand what makes this scooter soooo much fun to ride.

Yeah, wow! Really cool. Is it wrong that my favorite picture is of the naked C600 on page 17!?;)

Your prob right Snowdog, the BMW Uni in the url totally led to think the same thing. It's a shame this stuff is not linked on the BMWusa web site. I would have bought mine sooner if I had some tech data to satisfy my curiosity.

Honda has a manual called " Honda Common Service manual". I think you can get it from "Helm" publishing. It would be another excellent manual for the HOME motorcycle mechanic. I don't know if it is available online. It's worth getting.

I can't seem to bring up the link but will try later. If it were real easy BMW would be selling it for some outragious price like $100 and for PC only like the service manual. I bought the oil filter wrench yesterday and it was $42 plus tax. When I politely bitched about the price she asked if I was Scottish (which I am) and I about bust a gut laughing. Very nice Chinese girl who didn't realize it was a common joke that Scots are cheap.

$42 for an oil filter wrench?? I have several and didn't pay that much combined. Was it from BMW?

I am not the one who bought this filter but yes that is what it cost in Canada with the dollars exchange. But at the same time the tool for changing the belt is well over $30 in the states but only $18 in Canada. Some you win some you lose.

Yes it was from a major BMW Motorrad dealership here in Toronto. It is much better made (would classify as commercial quality) than any I have seen but I don't give a rats behind as it will be used once or twice a year. But despite a search nothing I could find would fit the filter pattern. Anyway it will still be a net saving over a dealership oil change.

Scoots you sir

The link to the technical manual in post 1 is dead for me also - can anyone direct us to another location please?
Or is there even a way to upload pdfs to the forum?
