Tires/tyres

I need to get a new front tire as current one is not long for this world after 10,000km - about 6,000 miles. As my expertise is not tires I have a question. Is there any real problem putting on a different brand such as perhaps a Michelin Power Pure SC on front and leaving the current back on (Pireli Diablo) or should I change both regardless?

No doubt you would pass on mismatched ratings/profiles or a long life with a traction control or some such thing. Other than that, why not?. Dark side guys (car tires on the back) go to the extreme and say they have no problem...not sure I would ever try that, but it does suggest that while optimum performance comes from the engineered design, there certainly is room for a degree of flexibility.

How aggressively do you drive? If you drive conservatively you will be ok . The point being you don't want to be surprised if you loose traction unexpectedly, causing oversteer or understeer.

I installed Power Pures on my GT and like them. I tend to push the scooter hard in the twisties just like I used to on my motorcycles. In fact I had to replace the two little dinguses on the center stand that protect the stand from grinding on the road in hard turns. I like the Michelin tires, they look like they'll last longer judging by the depth of the tread rubber. So far I've only put a couple thousand miles on them but they're wearing nicely, no sign of cupping or center tread flattening. The performed well for me this past winter on wet roads too.

It would seem that scooters with CVT transmissions are going to wear brakes faster than motorcycles with manual shift. I know I brake harder going into a tight curve at speed with the scooter than on my previous bikes which I could gear down.

Dr. Pulley Sliders increase your throttle-off engine braking, just another reason to get them!

Ohk.. you've got me interested in Dr Pulley Sliders.. My warranty ends this October.. Time to get them in place!

Might I ask if there is a recommended set to use for our bikes? Is there a link that I can check out?

Yeah, Skutorr is definitely the guy to talk to. He is the inter-Galaxy distributor for Dr. Pulley Sliders, maximus enormous purveyor of all things slider related, AND provides free installation 24/7 in his garage with no appointment. In fact he likes to be woken up in the middle of the night just to talk Pulley Sliders.

He is such an advocate that he changed his middle name to "Pulley"...Although maybe that is for some other reason.

It would seem to me if you want the clutch to stay engaged longer at lower rpms you'd have to go to heavier sliders. That would also mean you'd lose some acceleration off the line because the CVT would go into higher ratio sooner. There isn't any free lunch. With the CVT you're going to have to use more hand braking.
Front tires usually wear quite a bit faster on most bikes unless you have a lot of horsepower and can spin the rear. My current Power Pure front is showing some wear after 1500 miles but the rear still looks nearly new. Except all the nubbins are gone from the chicken strips.

LOL.. Do we really want to know what the other reason is? :p

Yeah, well, you're right. Probably the fewer details the better.;). But he is The Man when it comes to sliders.
