Unable to reset Service Indicator

Took the bike over to the dealer today to reset the Service Indicator. Diag Tool said it was reset, but the SERVICE indicator was still on. He tried it twice, than gave up. Opened a repair order and awaiting further advice from BMW...

Anyone else have this problem? Piss's me to no end I have to ride to my dealer (one hour each way) for something so simple, and then it cannot be accomplished without calling Germany...

$300 for GS911 is sounding better after all.

did you ride the scoot after the service date was reset?? they do sometimes still show up until the ignition is turned off then back on again, also did the tech set both the date and mileage??

FWIW, I've ordered a GS911...

I have looked into the gs 911 and I will be ordering one also. They say you have one year of free software updates. I have also noticed the software is at the beta stage. Yes it is compatible but how long will it be beta versus the final software. If you order the unit do not register or plug it in till needed and then from that date your year begins

The ECU's are: Engine, Instrument Cluster, ABS, and TPMS. The original problem was the dealer could reset the mileage interval for the next service, but was unable to reset the date interval. Either one will trip the "Service" indicator.

So, with modern oils/engines in the BMWs, the MILES you put on it are equivalent to some arbitrary TIME INTERVAL???

Really? Who here changes there oil on a vehicle with low-mileage use, just because it's been "X" period of time?

How about the Drive Belt? TIRES?.....

Hence, if you had the oil changed at the dealer, rode home and parked the bike, it would still show "Service" in six months...

BMW is providing a nice income stream for its dealers. Anyway, the purchase of the GS911 is what I call a "rental" part. Sell the bike, sell the accessory. I would anticipate selling a used one for $200. Thats means I don't have to deal with the dealership for a cost of $100 during my ownership period.

BTW, the software runs on my Dell Windows 8.1 tablet with no issues.

Tires break down over time even if you're not riding on them. My car, for example, has had its tires replaced despite having plenty of tread because the rubber was all dry-rotted from just sitting around outdoors most of the time (I only drive the car in severe weather... it's a 13 year old car with less than 77K on the odometer). Chemical oxidation and condensation causes acids to form in motor oil that is just "sitting there" and everyone knows what acid does to metal. One of the reasons you're supposed to change your oil BEFORE you put your bike up for the winter and not after.

I discovered years ago vehicles that get hardly any use sometimes require MORE maintenance than vehicles that get a lot. Weird, but true.

With the 2012 to 2015 the yellow gs911 is compatible but the 2016 and on will need the red wifi version

I have used my gs911 half a dozen times for myself and have reset others bikes for $45 each and paid for the tool

The GS911 worked fine on my GT to reset the service notice. Should be the the same on the Sport. I don't know if you need the wireless version like mine or the less expensive wired version. Mine will give some readings to my iPhone but to get full functionality it needs a PC to link up to.

$300 for a diagnostic tool just to reset the service date seems expensive to me (I know, I know....BMW stands for Break My Wallet). In any case, you can easily change the date to anything you want (prior to the last service), so you can turn off the service indicator assuming tripped for interval.

I bought one (RED wifi) (plus necessary adapter) for my 2016. After much frustration and many support phone calls, It was sent back and refunded. The company admitted that currently (software) the unit only works for the original 2012-15 models and NOT version 2 (newer models). They had no idea when or if there would be an update.
