by Francois , 03-09-2014 at 11:51 PM
I got caught in rain today, had to do an hour's riding in the rain. When I got home the area between inside of flex case and main storage comparment, was wet, underneath the seat of my C 600 Sport
Material of flex case was also wet,as well as articles stored underneath the seat.Second time in the rain and both times stuff stored underneath the seat were wet.

Has anyone else had this problem???

(PS Won't help me to contact BMW Customer care,in South Africa it is IMPOSSIBLE ...

Francois! I have been riding in heavy rain few times but found no water sipped in inside the flex case. Perhaps your seat is not properly closed or the rubber which coils around for the underseat has been tempered. Just my 1 cent opinion.

I've not experienced any breach of seal and I have ridden in serious rain as well. I've even removed and reinstalled my flex case, no leaks.

One guy on the Italian Forum also had leakage.
Must be a fairly rare occurrence...

On the subject of flex cases, the Spanish forum moderator did a survey as to what and how much was carried in the flex case. The answer was VERY LITTLE, for if they expanded it while parked, all the thieves KNEW something was stored inside, so they just slashed the KEVLAR and took whatever was there.

NO ONE ever stored anything in it expanded. What a SHAME!

I've never really used the flexcase. It is convenient if you are riding two up and want to store the helmets or maybe your riding gear, but other than that I haven't found it all that useful. I just wish there were a better tunnel option. Maybe a hardcase that fit the tunnel.

This thought crossed my mind the first time I'd heard of it. It really does advertise that you've got "something" stored and since it is just fabric, all it takes is a sharp knife. Probably sounded good on paper, but then "reality" intruded...

Wouldn't that also go for every HD with leather buckle saddlebags? Here in murica where this is the only bike available with this feature, most folks I talk to don't even notice it.

If a thief wants to get into your under seat storage, they will get in. Locks only keep out the honest people.

The point is, on a scooter without the flexcase, the thief doesn't know if there's anything worth stealing under the saddle. If the flex case is expanded, you're advertising to the whole world that you've got SOMETHING in there. THAT'S the difference.

Good point. I also always travel with an over-the-shoulder strap for my case if using one or I carry a back pack so that all the valuables can go with me when I leave the bike out of sight; which I frequently do as I have a tendency to park, walk/hike, and explore.

Has anyone here actually had their luggage compromised? I frequent San Francisco, Oakland and east San Jose and have never had my stuff messed with. I just wonder how prevalent an issue it really is. If I feel that I'm in a real dodgy neighborhood, I put my half cover on, and viola, one doesn't even know what's underneath. it just becomes a grey blob. Although in some areas with cold wet weather and homeless you should not use the cover as it will get stolen if not secured and built into an all weather shelter for someone and their shopping cart.

In the United States, I haven't heard but apparently it is a prevalent enough problem in Europe according to Skutorr's post. Wouldn't put it past our thieves to catch on to this either but then again, it's not like the C600 Sport (or ANY big scooter) is that common a sight here either.

It's a problem endemic to Europe, et al. The Spanish Tmax site even has a "Motos Robados" (Stolen Bikes) page, it happens so often...
