I felt much the same about the Can Am myself. I decided when I have to hang up the helmet I'm going to look for a Porche.

Has anyone heard if the new clutch and associated parts used in the new models fit the older models? I don't think I'd buy a new one, but if they've significantly decreased the clutch slippage at start I'd consider upgrading the clutch parts.

I've been real close to pulling the trigger on a s1000xr though. I keep waiting for BMW or Ducati to come out with a DCT and I think at that point, I may seriously consider moving on from teh scoot. The newer BMWs have clutchless up and down shifting which might be enough to get me off my c600. However, I don't necessarily mind shifting, but I really want to eliminate the clutch altogether.

I had to leave early and unexpectadly (as you may remember from my text) but was also surprised there was no Beemer scooters there. BTW...Did you have your Zero at that point or did a test drive at the rally convince you?

***************
Note to Kim...Can you provide a little more of what you liked/disliked about the Spyder? How long was your test drive? Have you tried a HD trike? BTW...If you are interested, let me know if you want to try my Kymco GT300i. I have been unable to ride for a little while (knee surgery this past Monday), and it might need some attention.;)

I rode the Spyder about 20 min. Most of the test was in a huge lot of the dealer with light poles one after another like a slalom course. The faster I rode the more the steering fought me. You have to lean your body into the turn and use your outside arm to push the bar. The thing has a lot of good qualities. The fit and finish was excellent. The unit I drove was a 2016 demo an F3 Limited with audio and side cases which are very small. The front trunk will hold most helmets. There is a foot brake only but it is very hard to not try to pull non existent brake levers and put a foot down at stop.
On a city road at about 50 the bike reacted by slowing me down during a slow turn. The motor was very smooth 3 cylinders and takeoff seemed faster than my c650GT. The paddle shifting tranny was easy but clunked into first gear.

$20000.00 with a thousand miles on it including trade tax and title work.

Oh it sold the next day as the list is about $27000.

I sat on the $40000.00 HD TriGlide and the Freewheeler which is a bare bike. These had the new Milwaukee Eight motor and still vibrated so badly that you couldn't see out of the mirrors. I believe the wheel layout is inherently unstable. Also you had better not put your foot down cause you could fun over it and be in a world of hurt. The trikes are HDs fourth best selling motorcycle.

I'm going to wait for this bike to again try out the trike concept. http://newatlas.com/yamahas-850cc-sports-three-wheeler-mwt-9/40092/ Yamaha has said it will be produced in 2018.

The Ural is interesting looking but only good for riding if you're not in a hurry. That's a lot of bike to move with a 750cc 42hp. It's amazing how difficult it is to find performance figures for that bike, quarter mile times and speeds, top speed, 0-60mph, none of it is easily available.

Probably because none of it really matters. I understand it can do a steady 65 mph on the highway, so it's a "Right Lane Only" bike on the freeway. It's more for enjoying the backroad scenery at a leisurely pace, I think.

Now a Morgan 3 Wheeler with an S&S motor hung out in front is probably the best attention getting motorcycle? one can buy. Of course you would have to sell a kidney to buy one.
There is a UTube video comparing the Slingshot, Spyder and Morgan.
I guess Morgans are being built and imported to the US.

Back on the original subject: It's really strange to me that BMW has not been at any Americade since 2013. It was my demo ride on the C650GT at that event that sold me on it because our local dealer couldn't (or didn't bother to try) get a demo model for me to ride. The best place to be to reach your potential customers is the event billed as "The World's Largest Touring Rally."

Yes, Sturgis, Loudon, and Daytona are far bigger events... but people don't go to those events to ride demos... they go to party, hang out, see and be seen. Even stranger that they DID attend the BMW MOA National, but didn't bring any scooter demos... ESPECIALLY since they were reintroducing the C650 Sport model and revamped the C650GT.

Does BMW WANT to sell scooters in this country? Sure seems like they're intentionally shooting themselves in the foot.

I don't really think they do. Very few dealer stock them, and it seems from reports on forums that dealers aren't exactly happy to take them back on trade. Sort of makes me worried about repair due to lack of knowledge.

Yamaha Dealers do the same with Tmaxes. In this country maxi-scooters can't get no love!

Ain't that the truth. And I don't really get it. I wonder, if it's because other parts of the world have a higher scooter to motorcycle ratio (made that up and have no idea if it's true) and therefore the big scoots are looked at as a step up in those places and here in the "Harley" nation anything smaller is a step down?

Many of us have had the experience of being asked about our bikes by guys on motorcycles. I've told the story here before about the time I rode my CGT to my local HOG meeting a couple years ago (I also owned a Road King Classic at the time) and you woulda thought the CGT was a celebrity. Did any of those guys buy a Beemer scooter after seeing mine? Maybe not, but it didn't take any hits either. I took a couple but only because I was being accused of trying to bring in an illegal entry into our slow race.;)

I find my 2014 BMW C600 Sport the most practical 2-wheel transport for Metro Manila (Philippines) traffic. It takes me about 1.5-2 hours to travel 7kms from office to home on a bad day (i.e., Friday night, pay day and it's raining). Some have it worse. On my scoot? It takes me 35-45 mins to get home 30-35 mins in the morning when going to work. Been taking my scoot to work every day. Rain or shine. I got my laptop, office clothes, raincoat, lunch box, thermos, etc with me. When I park, I leave my helmet, jacket, rain gear and other protective gear on the scoot. Love it.

Now that the 2016 C650 Sport is out, am considering an upgrade. If it performs better than my 2014, that's great. Waiting time though is till February next year. Might as well see if the 2017 will be available by then.

It's true even here where motorcycles (bike bikes of at least 400cc) look down on smaller cc bikes and and low displacement scoots. But BMW, Suzuki and Honda have elevated maxi scoots to a different tier. BMW at least gets special "treatment" from other motorists when they see me on my scoot. They move over to let me filter through traffic. Now ain't that cool? It's not often they see a BMW scoot doing that.

You're a brave man. Having experienced traffic in Metro Manila, I wouldn't want anything less than an armored personnel carrier!

My dealer (Montgomery Cycle in Montgomeryville, PA} has recently opened an entire section of their showroom just for BMW. They seem to be selling pretty good.
