Yamaha introduces the "Lux Max" edition of the TMAX

Sounds like it's just special trim, nothing significant like standard heated seats, heated grips or ABS.

The Yamaha sales rep at the main bike show here in Toronto back in January tried to tell me North Americans didn't want ABS and heated grips. When I asked why the rest of the world had the TMax with ABS and what research and info he had that told him what we wanted there was silence. What a jerk!

The regular TMAX sells for the same price as the baseline GT here in the States and for the life of me I can't understand WHY. No ABS, no heated grips, no heated seats, less storage, smaller, less powerful engine and a manually adjustable windshield (which is a step up from the 2009 model which had a non-adjustable shield).

The only "high tech" feature it has is the keyless ignition and that's not enough to justify the price. It's like they're intentionally trying to kill the product in the States ("See! I told you we couldn't sell this here!").

They simply want out of the scooter market in North America. With poor sales figures they have a problem explaining that to Japan and would rather drop them from their offering. And that comes from a dealer who has spoken to the top brass about it!

I think it's that the North American market is an afterthought for Yamaha scooter sales, they really don't care that much, as even if sales were pretty good, it would mean very little to their bottom line. Everywhere else the Tmax's cult following ensures huge sales every year, relative to all their competition. The Iron Max came out a while ago, just like the Bronze Max and Lux Max now, and everyone creamed their jeans over the new (dead-ass) color, plaque, gold highlights and Akra exhaust. Wow.

I guess they decided that as long as it was being sold in Canada, and the C-series was already here, they would add Mexico (last year) and the US this year with the latest updated model. I'm just hoping for one of their better colors to hit over here, instead of Asphalt Grey...

I'd LOVE to see it in the speed-block yellow/white/black scheme that they're making available for the YZF-R1!

Nah, I think the FJ-09 is a screaming bargain for what you're getting. Several members of my club seem to agree as they've recently purchased one for themselves. And remember: In a recent Consumer Reports survey, Yamaha rated at the top for reliability. BMW was second from last (only Can Am makes more troublesome vehicles).

Oddly enough in another survey rating "Dealership Satisfaction," BMW rated near the top, and Yamaha closer to the bottom. I believe this was previously discussed here in another thread.
