You can go the NTSB website and enter your vin number and get any recalls listed for your car, truck or motorcycle.

Mine was 2014 and had 2nd gen tensioner mechanical. It started making noise and found out it was tensioner. I had the shops call and fight to get mine replaced. They called for over 6 weeks and finally was shutdown by BWM Germany. I paid $1200 for the hydraulic upgrade. This was the 2nd one...

Did it have the hydraulic chain tensioner or the 2nd Generation mechanical tensioner? It should have been making a noise ahead of time as a warning. Bmw won’t do anything if you had the 2nd gen tensioner. At least they didn’t for me. I hope you have better luck.
