I rent an apartment from my Dad on the cheap to keep costs down in an area with an inflated cost of living. I DON'T have a garage which was not an issue for my old scooter (Honda SH150i). However now I've upgraded to a BMW C400GT and I am a little worried. I have built a small scooter port onto the side of my apartment on a paved pad with a tin roof, and I bought a sealskin cover which fits the bike well and keeps it dry, but I still find myself fretting about a bike with this level of electronics being mostly exposed to the elements.

I use this bike to commute to work and sometimes get caught in the rain, I do carry a smaller light weight cover under the seat to put on it at work to keep it dry when the weather is bad, but it sees some rain here and there.

I guess I am trying to gauge how hardy these bikes are. Anyone else out there parking outside and riding in the rain? Or am I spoiling my new BMW with harsh living conditions.

if it's the elements you're worried about i would focus on upgrading the port you built. make it a mini insulated water tight 4 sided garage like a regular home would have. the ease you get back instead of covering/uncovering/worrying about weather every time is worth it.

That's a bit more than I can Provide, but I am going to expand the pad and roof... and enclose two sides with fencing. I have a window there, so I don't want to totally close it in. I am really just overwhelmed by how nice the bike is, and I am curious how the c400gt holds up outdoors all year. Also, I ride it every day and have already been caught in some fairly inclement weather. I feel like it will be ok as long as I keep it dry and covered. I guess being a BMW owner without a garage puts me in a minority.
