Software update 2026

Hello everyone hope you are well.
I've got a update version 015_011_020
Not much change in the menus still don't see the pourcentage of the life of the battery.
But they may have improve the battery charging and the autonomy.
Before the new update my CE04 would give me 119 km on a single charge in Dynamic mode.
For sure it depends how you ride.
But since the update and charging slow at 6 amp now it shows 130 km autonomy.
Now is it a gimmick or it's working and will see and check if it work.

Very impressive with 120-130 km reported. I usually get like 103 km when fully charged in "road". But I can get 130 km if riding "normal". So my guess-meter is quite pessimistic.

Btw: I have the battery health in %, and my software is from 2024 (dunno the exact version, can check later).

Hello since your from Europe you do have this info in North America BMW decided that we didn't need this information because they are not giving us the 5 years warranty on the battery. Quite cheap on there part, since they are not selling as many compare let's says to France especially in Paris where there is one part every 10 meters... Maybe it's the law in Europe that they have to give more warranty on the battery.
Since I'm mostly doing city driving with this new version I can go up to 145km if I go low on the pourcentage below 20%.

Yeah, I mostly ride 70-100 km/h. And comparing 70 km/h to say 110 km/h is massive on battery drain, it feels more than squared(!)

However, you can probably just install the European version with ISTA.

Wish my dealer had it I don't think they will never get that version.

Regard that with a grain of salt. What the firmware update does is reset your usage profile, so the scooter starts with a blank slate.
Energy is energy, no software update is going to give you more effective range.

Range is primarily dependent on riding speed, as energy requirement rises with the power of 3 with rising speed. Double your speed, and you'll use eight times the energy per kilometer.
So is someone that mostly rides in the city with a low average speed going to get 130km? Probably.
Someone like me whose commute includes highway and interstate speeds (I usually have an average of 80+ km/h on my commute according to the trip computer, and a good portion of that is being ridden WOT) has a lot less range, in my case around 90km if I'm lucky...

I understand your point but since 2023 my first year the recharge always top at 119 km in Dynamic mode, I didn't change my let's says profile mostly city, but this spring when I got the update it when to 131km range but my riding is still the same, so I'm not a expert but it seem to me they did something on how the charge is use don't you think?

That just means the software is a bit more optimistic now. If your real-world range (on the same ride and with nearly identical conditions and using most of the battery along the way) is longer now, I would be very surprised.

You can see that clearly when you switch modes: with a full battery it'll show a different range whether you're in Eco or Dynamic. Does that mean that Dynamic mode uses more energy per se? No, it can, but if you ride it smoothly, the mode you're in doesn't mean anything. It's just that Dynamic has the potential to use more energy, and that's what it's showing you. That doesn't have to be true.

For sure if you do highway speed the charge won't last 130 same for any vehicle the consumption will increase.
I've check BMW Web site any they actually write 130 range now compare to before but it's from the European value.
he capture is from the Canadian site.
My km is the same that before the way I ride as well maybe they let us use a bit more compare to before the buffer for the battery was decrease that why we get more.

Not for any vehicle. Electric motorcycles (and EV in general, but motorcycles are affected more because of the much worse cv vs cars) suffer a higher penalty in energy consumption over speed than gas motorcycles do. That's because an electric motor is rather efficient at low speeds, but a gas engine isn't.
So the difference between going slow and going fast is much more pronounced for the electric motorcycle. Simply because it's so efficient at low speeds.
The 130km/80mi come from a standardized test cycle, and while I don't know which WMTC they ran for the CE04, it's likely the "midrange" one which limits or omits highway speeds. That's how they got to their number.

I, too, was hoping to get a safe range of 60mi when going to our plant (55mi away on 55mph highways), but the one time I did I arrived in turtle mode with 2mi range left. That was a bit too close for comfort.
 
Hey @Fullum how did you do the software update? My CE04 is stuck at 014_017_050 but I only have a A1 license so the scooter is limited too 98km, don't ask me why, apparently it goes a little slower not that you can notice it. But a few more kms would be welcome...

That's two things that have nothing to do with each other. Nobody knows why, but BMW decided to cut the usable battery capacity on the 11kW models. That's nothing a software update is going to change.

Hi Tron, agreed the two things seem unrelated, however I didn’t know if the fact that my CE 04 wasn't automatically upgrading because it's limited to 97km which I can get changed if I take the A2 license test. I just wanted to know how you did the software upgrade? Thanks. Sorry my message was to @Fullum

There's ongoing controversy whether a A1-CE04 can be "opened" up to the unlimited version or not. Some dealers apparently can do it and did it, but the official stance seems to be that it's not possible. So you'll just have to approach some dealers in your vicinity and ask.
 
The servicing guy at BMW Horizon in Paris said that it was a software unlock, but I obviously have to change the carte grise, which is the vehicle registration document and before that take the A2 license test.
However, if it's only a software lock and it has the same 11kw battery, would it leave me stranded if I went down to zero%, knowing that there will be another 30km left in the battery. I got it down to 3% today and it was in slow mode with the tortoise light on, the display showed about 1/3 of the possible acceleration but I could surpass that it didn’t seem to physically prevent me from accelerating. So I hope it is only a software unlock...
 
I guess only BMW can tell you that. I know that the restricted version (11kW) has the same battery as the unrestricted version, just less usable energy.
So if you can get it unlocked after getting your license, I would expect you to have the full 8.5kWh available.

But yes, if you ride it down to 0%, it will leave you stranded in any case. Ask me how I know.... :rolleyes:

Sorry I was busy a bit and forgot to answer your question the latest version is 015_011_020 a much more stable version compare to 2024 version and for whatever reason they used to advertise the range of the scooter when I brought it in 2023 at 120km now it's 130km range and in the city driving at speed limit I get more then that, again I don't go below 20% on the battery to keep it wealthy.
