Who does their own oil changes?

Zep makes several different cleaning fluids. Back when I was driving charter buses I got to liking the smell of the Zep stuff the bus cleaners used inside the bus.

    Refueling C650GT

Oops, I already posted on this subject. I have an excuse, I'm suffering from a fatal disease. You may have heard about it. Its called A.G.E.

    Refueling C650GT

I fill my scooter until I see about about a half inch on top of the nozzle stop in the filler neck. Also It helps to have the bike on the center stand when refueling if you want to get a full tank.

    Changing final drive oil/lube

Just changed the oil and filter on my bike at 11,600mi. Looked at the chain and it's slack is just fine, the chain oil level is good and the fluid looks like it just came out of the can. Brake discs and pads are very lightly worn. Some darkening in the rear brake reservoir window, I'll flush and...

Who does their own oil changes?

Just did mine last week. Not a bad job even at 76 years old. But I do cheat I don't do it on the floor but use a HF bike lift. First time I used Mobil 1 synthetic and a KN164 filter. This time I used synthetic oil and filter from my local BMW dealer. The cost wasn't much more this time. Be...

electrical connection for heated gear (gerbing)

Pretty much what I did to my GT. Ran a wire from the battery through a 5A fuse to just below the handlebar cover and installed a 12v coax socket. I cut a slot in the handle bar cover on top of the left side near the rear edge. That allowed me to clip my Gerbings dual controller and plug it into...

    Too loud exhaust?

I'd try sealing the gap in the exhaust that you found first. It's easy to find noisier mufflers for bikes but quieter ones might be hard to find. If you're getting tinnitus through earplugs it's possible there's something else causing your problem. I have tinnitus from pistol and rifle...

    Fuel flap cover

I made an adapter for locking back the seal ring on California fuel filler nozzles so I could more easily fill my Goldwing. I still carry it today. Take a look at this ready made adapter which is just like the one I made out of some aluminum scrap I had on hand...

    Fuel flap cover

I had to replace the fuel filler flap on my '13GT due to some clumsiness on my part. I managed to hit it with my foot on dismounting when it wasn't quite locked down. A new style flap from the local BMW shop cost me $86.00, stiff but then its a BMW part which aren't known for low prices. The...

    2013 C650GT Moisture/Wet Trunk

It might be condensation. The top box is one of the highest points on the bike other than the windshield. Water vapor tends to rise and collect. You could try to vent the cover better to allow more air currents to pass through. One other easy solution would be just to remove the top box when the...

    Hello from Q8!

Welcome meloserj! Sounds like you have a great scooter there. Of course it won't be as fast as my Red 1913 GT. Everyone knows red is the fastest color. But don't feel bad yours is still a very good machine. I would like to have a newer model like yours, they have a much better sound when...

GS911 diagnostic code reader WIFI, Bluetooth, USB

I decided I just couldn't part with my GT so I'll be keeping the code reader.

    Replace front light bulb

HF Bike lift with side rails. This is my lift with the side rails in place. They weren't finished at the time I took the picture, now they're painted red to match the lift and a strip of anti skid down the center of each. They attach with two aluminum clips at each end and are lifted off when...

    Bmw security chain

I had the same question in mind as well. I can see carrying a piece of chain and a lock that could fit through the front or rear wheel to prevent rolling the bike but don't see the point of locking the fork with a chain. I'm glad scooters aren't popular here in the US, sometimes I think you...

Is the C650 too much machine to serve as a first-ever bike?

What the heck? Go for it! Take it easy at first but you'll get the hang of the bike soon enough and feel comfortable with it. Personally I find my C650GT to be a fine ride on the highway and in town. Mine's been reliable after a few hiccups when I first got it. BMW made a couple of recalls which...

    Seat pad

If you can't find anything a piece of foam rubber cut to shape will make the tushy cushy. I cut a triangular piece of foam, covered it with fabric cut from a tote bag and put it on a bike I had years ago. It sure helped on a long ride.

Thought about removing the center stand for more ground clearance.

The center stand is very useful. Try changing a tire without it or adjusting the parking brake. The bike takes up more room in the garage on the side stand. You can warm up the engine if necessary on the center stand as well.

Is the C650 too much machine to serve as a first-ever bike?

I've been riding since 1957, I've owned many motorcycles over those years including the Goldwing which is about as big and heavy as one can get. My first ride was a Harley 74. I Don't think the GT is too big for a first scoot. It would be better if you could rent a scooter or get hold of a small...

BMW top box, does a XXL helmet fit inside?

I can easily get either my 3/4 Large Bell or my modular HJC Large helmet to go easily into the Highline BMW box. They do need to be upside down and sideways as already mentioned. I put a small piece of carpet cut to fit the bottom of the box which makes it a bit nicer. My scoot came with the BMW...

    Gonna keep her!

I had my 2013 GT posted on Craigslist and got a real response today. The fellow had the cash but I kinda convinced him the bike was too tall for him and he decided he'd look for something else. Yes, I copped out. I just couldn't sell this scooter when it came down to it. I'd spent a half hour...
