    Motorcycle Wave

Observations: 1) Harley riders tend to wave by LOWERING their hand below the bar, not raising it. If you're not looking for it, you miss it. 2) Sportbike riders tend to just lift the fingers of the left hand, but leave their hand on the bar. Again, if you're not looking for it, you miss it.

    Motorcycle Wave

It's simple. I wave at everyone on two (or three) wheels if my left hand isn't busy braking/clutching. Of course, that means I get to wave all the time when I'm out on my Zero, and MOST of the time on the C650GT (since I only need to use the rear brake if I need to slow rapidly). On the...

    2017...Your Year to Challenge Yourself?

Last year I did a combined 18K+ miles across all three of my PTWs. This year I want to top that.

    Updated TMAX for 2017?

Well, I just got back from looking at Yamaha's website. Although they do show 2017 models for most of their bikes and scooters, the TMAX page only shows specs for 2015 and 2016. Looks like Americans wanting a scooter with true cruise control are out of luck. Yamaha still seems to think they...

Rode the scooter in 25 degree F weather last Friday.

Although guys will IMMEDIATELY notice the design flaw in the pants, the most effective non-electric protection from the cold that I've found is the Freeze-Out undergarments from BiLT and sold exclusively through Cycle Gear. Besides being made of a thick layer of wicking fabric (which keeps the...

    Bmw security chain

I carry a cable lock I bought from Cycle Gear. So far the only thing I've used it for is locking my riding suit to the scooter (via the grab rails) when I just wanted to walk around without looking like something out of a comic book (and the underseat storage was full).

Rode the scooter in 25 degree F weather last Friday.

I have this one. It's not inexpensive but it is the most versatile heated vest I've EVER owned: http://www.aerostich.com/clothing/heated-gear/kanetsu-electrics/aerostich-kanetsu-airvantage-electric-vest.html I also added the optional zip-off sleeves to make it even more practical. Like all...

Rode the scooter in 25 degree F weather last Friday.

I think any time the temperature is below 40 the temperature display will flash along with the "snowflake" icon as a warning there MAY be ice on the road. I've gotten used to it but it sure would be nice if there was a way to stop it from blinking; it's distracting.

    Pannier frame 650 GT scooter

FYI: I've been touring for a few decades now on various machines (starting WAYYY back on bicycles) and I've learned a few things. You RARELY use everything you bring; after awhile you learn what to leave behind, and what can be picked up on the road if you do need it. Every trip you make a...

Rockin Sound System for 2016 BMW C650GT

I have the NCOM bluetooth speakers in my helmet. Paired with my BMW Navigator IV (same as a Zumo 660) and my 4 Gb of MP3 music goes with me whenever I ride. Sounds great and doesn't annoy anyone else around me. I DO miss cranking the stereo system on the K1200LT when I find myself next to...

    Oooops!

Why was he braking in a turn in the first place?? Sounds like he wants the more advanced ABS of the S1000RR, not the "basic" system on the scooter. OR learn how to ride properly in the first place. Just my $.02

What has everybody been up yo?

This way I ALWAYS have something to ride if one of them is in the shop. And since the Zero has NO spark plugs, NO valves, NO engine oil, NO filters, NO coolant and NO transmission fluid there is precious little that makes me have to bring it into the shop ever. Tires and brake pads I can...

What has everybody been up yo?

Truthfully, since I bought the Zero back in April I haven't been riding the scooter much. I just topped 7,000 miles on the Zero, whereas I haven't even put 6,000 miles on the scooter this year. Even the K1200LT has more miles this year than the scooter (mostly because I use it for the really...

New c650 charging thru socket problem

I'm glad I don't have that nonsense to deal with in my 2013 C650GT. It really does seem BMW is going out of their way to make the simplest tasks as complex as possible. On my 2013, the accessory socket in the left glove box, and the optional accessory socket on the handlebar are wired directly...

Hey!! One of your headlights are burnt out!!

Although it never happened to me, several members of the Badweather Bikers BBS (Buell Enthusiast's forum) said they were pulled over by police for having a headlight burned out. They had to go to court with a document stating that was the way the bike was built. I had an XB12Ss Lightning Long...

Black flies. Questions for our Canadian friends !!

We've always called those green-headed flies "horse flies" but they aren't. VERY common on the beaches here on Long Island. The closest I can come up with describing the bite of one of those bastards is having a burning cigarette ash land on your bare skin.

Black flies. Questions for our Canadian friends !!

I was going to say... I've been all over the Atlantic provinces and Quebec. The only place I ever ran into black flies was in Labrador. I'd been warned before I went, but I had no idea how BAD it was.

The right tool for the job.

Picked up a bottle from the following vineyards: Martha Clara Osprey's Dominion Sparkling Pointe I wanted to make two more stops, but two of our riders had an "incident" and after that, no one was in the mood to keep going so most everyone bailed. I usually stop at the Lenz Winery and Pindar...

The right tool for the job.

Yesterday, I led our club's annual "Champagne Tour" out to the North Fork of Long Island (NY). This was way beyond the range capabilities of the Zero, and I had just dropped off my K1200LT the day before for a 12K service interval (at 204,000 miles). That left "Snoopy" as my "default ride" for...
