First Real Drive On My New (to me) 650GT

Welcome, and just keep an eye (better: an ear) on the timing chain tensioner. These bikes are super.

Three new TFT Screens plus 5 Heated Grip Options.

Top speed on my K1600 GTL apparently 150 MPH, my C650 110 MPH. I actually do go around 100 MPH on my morning commute from San Diego to Los Angeles in short bursts, usually to get away from traffic in 'the fast lane'. (Last Thursday on the way back, in the pouring rain, I was filtering / lane...

    Throttle issue

The only thing that comes to mind are the idle air actuator hoses - two small long-ish vacuum/air hoses that can crack as they age introducing unexpected air into the system, throwing off the ECU.

Loud, squealing brakes on brand new C400GT

Welcome and congratulations on your new bike! Your issue is definitely not moisture/condensation on the discs. It should also not be caused by the 'newness'. I would be more inclined to think the prolonged sitting has resulted in the pistons inside the brake calipers to be slightly 'seized' and...

    Getting off a R1200R onto a C650GT

I've owned my Sport for 7 years now and have been very happy with it. Plenty of power, comfortable and good amount of storage. I especially like the 'variomatic' transmission. Great in busy city traffic, good on highways. That said, it's very different in character from your 'naked' bike. Find a...

A Question of Oil (Uh oh)

I swear by the original BMW stuff for two reasons: - it is definitely unquestionably correct to use - it is barely any more expensive than any other name brand motorcyle specific oil. You do want motorcycle engine specific oil, not car engine oil.

BMW C650GT Cam Chain Tensioner replacement instructions and parts

I've also opted to stay with the factory original part in my last replacement. As wofatchin notes, it is relatively easy to do. The only thing that is important though, is to have an ear for when the BMW part inevitably starts to fail again, so you can replace it before catastrophy strikes. Me I...

    Problems in new bike city

Sounds like somehow the Optimate and the battery are not entirely compatible. Good that at least the battery is ok.

BMW C650GT Cam Chain Tensioner replacement instructions and parts

There are aftermarket manually adjustable tensioners as you describe available, for example this on ebay...

Why Rear Brake Lever On Right Handlebar?

No worries and congratulations on getting a great maxi-scooter, you'll love it.

    Driveline vibration elimination (hopefully!)

Englis translation: "Without doing a thorough test, I think the vibration problem has been solved. The bearing on the cover that is coupled to the variator shaft had a broken ball and a lot of play. I have had both bearings on the cover changed, which were already damaged with only 28,000K. If...

    C400GT starting issue (Intermittent)

Actually I think my suggestion is incorrect: if one of the switches is defective, the starter won't spin - but yours does, so that can't be it. If you can get to the spark plug, remove it to see whether it is wet with fuel after having tried to start, and whether it is actually sparking. If dry...

    C400GT starting issue (Intermittent)

Could be one of the starting inhibitor/safety switches with an intermittent fault. I know you say sidestand is up and brake lever is applied, but if one of those switches is on its way out, the bike won't start when it is acting up, and will start when it's good again.

    C650/C600 Clutch Replacement

I installed a Dr Pulley clutch on my Honda SHi 300 but truth be told preferred the original Honda one. Have not bothered to swap it back yet though, so the Dr Pulley is still ok on that bike. But it lessened my appetite to tinker with my BMW Sport clutch, which to me is pretty much perfect the...

    BMW C650GT grips

I noticed also the grips tend to wear relatively quickly - but only in appearance, not functionality? Are yours worn through so quickly / don't function properly anymore? One option is to just get new ones from the dealer, or good used ones on Ebay etc. From Dutchinca, Cees

Engine cut out in heavy highway commuting traffic

Sorry this happened. The kill switch on both my BMW bikes (C650 and K1600) are quite 'heavy' to operate, likely to prevent precisely what happened to you: accidental engagement. Is the one one the 400 so easy to press?

    Code reader

search for Motoscan on this site, lots of discussions. It works and is very low cost compared with its competitor, the GS911

Engine stalling when slowing - test idle control device?

So have you replaced the sensor? Or if it's not the sensor, repaired the wiring or whatever else is causing this fault? Until you do, you have to assume this is most likely causing your issues. Without proper O2 readings the engine will never run right.

    Software ista-p/ista-d

Not heard of anything other than GS911 or Motoscan (I prefer Motoscan myself) to be able to effectively communicate with the BMW bikes. That's not to say the ones you mention don't work, but for resetting service reminders, Motoscan is a simple and effective solution.
