I’d say it’s a bit harsh to say that since any bike can have failure if driven enough. This seems to be bmw trademark for most of their products to have timing chain, oil leaks and overheating issues even if not manufactured by them. It’s no Yamaha or Honda but it’s definitely not junk either.

Video would help. Also your timing chain tensioner is probably on the way out hence the noise.

I owned a 2009 Tmax and 2015. Both a great machines and I regret selling my 2015 one. Truly worry free low cost motoring.

As a former owner of 2022 xmax go for c650 honestly. More power better looking and far more fun.

Or BMW could have made this for the people without ridiculous need to reset windscreen after swapping batteries.

I’ve owned over 25 motorcycles since 2013 and keep coming back to maxi scooters as well. I just can’t find same combination of features in a motorcycle.

It works the same way here that’s why they told me two weeks for new key.

I made sure that it’s a retrofit otherwise I can swap mechanic tensioner myself without need for dealer involvement

$125 cut and programmed for the retrofit about $1000

I called Max BMW and they quoted me $125 and about two weeks to get additional key made. I’m waiting to do my timing chain tensioner retrofit done there with new key made at the same time.

This is not fully baked yet for my taste. Design is fugly, range not there and probably no where to repair it other then the dealer who doesn’t have parts in stock. Hard pass especially at $14k

This a great video on this procedure. However I think I’ll leave it for the professional at the dealer to do especially if it is going to cost only $500 extra on top of parts.

Why can’t bmw figure out their timing chain issues on all their products? This engine isn’t even made by bmw but still suffers same defect.
