My friend hasn't given up his Harleys or classic Japanese sport bikes but... he is now the proud owner of a Honda SilverWing that he recently restored. He just sent me photos of him taking it for its first real spin; a 150 mile loop. He rode at mostly 50 mph speeds, but got it up over 70 several times and said he had no issues with the handling at all. He is now also a fan of tall windshields.

His only complaint is the linked braking system. He said it's a good thing Honda equipped that scooter with ABS, because it is stupid-easy to lock the rear wheel up. He also confirmed he will ride with me to Indianapolis in August on the SilverWing instead of on his Low Rider. I'm sure we'll swap scoots a couple of times while we're away so he can see how much better the BMW is, and then we'll see...

Yup. I rode it last year to Indy (and I was the ONLY C650GT I saw in the whole city) so I know it can be done. We were SUPPOSED to "scooter it" last year, but he didn't take delivery of the Silverwing till after we got back. I decided to ride the scooter anyway (I knew I'd still be quicker than him on his Harley, and he'd need gas before I did too). With the LT, I'd fill up ever other time he did. With the scooter, we'd fill up together.

It sounds like the Silverwing gets better mileage than the GT, but we'll see...
