Hi all, need to tap in to the knowledge base again! Got my new 2025 400GT. Tried fitting a Carpuride and 3rd eye to it today. I also got a thunderbolt as I thought it would make my life easier.
What I hadn’t considered was the tight space in and around the battery and the apparent lack of an easy route to run a cable from the front of the bike to the rear. Anyone got any advice on best way to get a cable from the battery at the front to the rear of the bike need to get the rear camera and 3rd sensor hooked up somehow. Thanks
Short answer:
No, nothing easy, in my experience.
Long answer:
I ran a pair of wires from the battery, back pretty far (sort of middle of the bike).
I did this -- twice now, on my former '22 and on my current '23 C 400 GT -- to put in a Powerlet/BMW/DIN/Hella socket underneath my left thigh. I've done this mod on all my bikes (including my current other bike, a Meteor 350) for 18 years now: I use the socket every day for smart-charging, and on rare occasions for heated gear or a 12V air compressor.
You can read about this mod in my gallery, from the pics and captions from
https://billanddot.com/C400GT/#S-46 through
https://billanddot.com/C400GT/#S-60 .
The bottom line is that I removed the underseat tub. Once you do so, there's a ton of room underneath there, lots of stock wires you can cable-tie things to, and so forth.
Removal of the tub is a bit of a pain, certainly, and fairly tedious. And to do it right (at least on the earlier models -- not sure about your '25) you actually have to remove the passenger grab rails or their replacement, i.e., the top case support.
WARNING: If you mess with the tub (again, at least on the earlier models), be very mindful of the switch at the back. Unlike with my first experience, don't bang it into any frame members, etc. See https://billanddot.com/C400GT/#S-35 and https://billanddot.com/C400GT/#S-36.
Back to your question. Note that I also added Skene LED modules out back (on both bikes), and did NOT have to remove the tub. You'll find this mod detailed in
https://billanddot.com/C400GT/#S-38 through
https://billanddot.com/C400GT/#S-45 .
However, note that this mod
started pretty far back, and went all the way to the very back of the bike, but did NOT involve any direct connection to the battery. I do NOT think it is possible to snake a wire along what you might consider the outside of the bike, i.e., just removing assorted panels as you work your way backward. It MIGHT be possible, but I don't think so.
And I don't envy you, trying to find a good place to mount a rear dash cam or whatever it is that you'll be mounting there.
(My cheapo Aoocci C6 CarPlay device came with two TPMS sensors and two cameras; I mounted that on my Meteor, and decided not to mount the cameras, because I couldn't find a good place for either ... and I run a GoPro for my rides, which at least can serve as a forward-facing dash cam.)
Good luck on your project.
