Kymco MyRoad 700i??

Supposedly, Kymco is doing some kind of event in Orlando, Florida in which a working MyRoad700i will be present. This is the AIM Expo which is a powersports event running from October 16th-20th. I plan to ride my superior BMW over to look at Kymco's latest offering! :)
 
I've been back and forth on a facebook forum with a young lady from the florida shop that has the 700i. She's new to the shop so I'd not expect much on the way of tech knowledge. But if you could get a ride on it, Im curious as to how different the geometry is from our bikes. Most of the Asian (not Jappanese) bikes Ive ridden sound great on a spec sheet and fall very short when put to the real world test.
 
What I have seen and read the Kymco leg room is short a tall rider hits his knees on the dash board also the fit and finish isn't very good and the front fork is mushy the engine is not bad I would think that is because they copied some of the engine that they made for BMW 650 gt.
 
I've owned a few Kymcos - a People 300 GT and an Xciting 500 Ri ABS. They're very reliable bikes. The 300 was a product of Kymco's new engineering and was a fun, good handling large wheel (16") step through sporty, scooter. The Xciting 500 was a reliable long distance hauler but it did not have a proper suspension even with after market shocks. I did not pay a lot of money for either of them and they were a good value. Neither could hold a candle to the BMW - BUT neither seemed have the teething problems we are seeing in the C series. The 300 was a beta version and it never even sneezed. The Xciting was old technology but you never worried about getting home. I have several friends who own 500s with nearly 50,000 miles. Kymco takes a bashing from the motorcycle types - usually out of ignorance. I traded my 500 to get the Sport and the sales manager was all over bad mouthing Kymco until I informed him of the origin of the motor I was trying to buy.

The BMW is in a class of its own. However, not being in that class does not necessarily make another bike bad - just not a BMW.
 
I would have to agree. I own a Kymco Downtown 300 and the 650 gt. Both are great bikes, and it's hard to compare the brands. The BMW has better fit and finish as expected but you are paying for that. From what I can tell the cost of ownership of the Kymco is less because BMW maintenance cost are more expensive. I have ridden the 500 and the dealership I bought the 300 has the 700 and I will go try it out. I found that the 500 did not handle as wheel as my BMW or my Downtown and the BMW has more leg room and power the both Kymco's. I also prefer the seat heights on the Kymco especially the 300. I don't think you can go wrong with either brand.
