Yamaha updates the TMAX for 2015, and we probably won't get this one either in the US

It's already up on Yamaha Canada's website.

That's right, F-ing CANADA gets the latest one, and so probably the NEXT gen 5 Tmax, at around 700cc or so, based on the parallel twin in the FZ-07?? There is NO 2015 Majesty in the U.S. from now on; they are just selling-off the last 2014's. All that's left is 50-125cc girly scooters...Good thing I know how to get them out of Canada!:cool:

They addressed the last few niggling shortcomings/owner requests it had:

1.) new motorcycle inverted 41mm forks
2.) LED running lights around the inside of the headlamps
3.) wider fairing for better wind protection and more stylish mirrors
4.) replaced the OEM Projector headlamps ($$) with full LED headlamps ($$$$)!
5.) added an external power tap for GPS/heated jacket/etc., as the LED headlamps freed-up almost 100 watts of power!
6.) KEYLESS starting/entry to under seat (while running!):D

All that, for the EXACT SAME PRICE as a 2014. Yikes! These changes must have been in the works since 2013, to be ready by now. There must be something to the whole Designed in Japan and Built in Japan philosophy that makes it possible...

BMW has changed the colors.

(Maybe BMW will upgrade to OEM Projectors now that Yamaha has moved on to LED's? Nah, they designed it to have the Yamaha-discontinued "scooter" rear chain drive system along with a clone of the old MkII Tmax dash on the C600...)

Stay tuned to see if they are serious about product development, not just recall and repair. Honestly, I've been HOPING for that since 2012!!!:(

Interesting how posts here don't show up in the main feed. In any event, Yamaha still hasn't addressed the main issue I have with the TMAX compared to the other big maxis: The lame amount of underseat storage. Only the big Aprilia is worse in that department...
 
By the way, the rumor that the C600 Sport will be discontinued in the US for 2015 is getting louder every day. Honda discontinued their long-running Silverwing to bring in that hideous NM4 Manga nightmare instead. Big scooters don't seem to sell here in the States, unfortunately. I'm surprised Suzuki continues to sell the big Burgmans here. Thankfully, BMW is giving the C650GT another year...
 
Yep, I'm 5'9" with a 30" inseam and with the seatback all the way back it's perfect for my legs. The Japanese Yamaha site has an interactive rider graphic showing how you fit on the current Tmax 530. The Typical Rider is shown as 5'7" and the scale only goes to 5'11", for a historically short-legged group of riders. My brothers 530 has increased legroom, though, compared to my 500. My OTHER brother, with the Burgmans, is 6'1" and looks like he is engulfing my Tmax when he sits on it!:confused:

Sure, the Tmax has less under seat storage than the C650, but it's RIDING storage is much greater than the C600's. It can carry three six packs of long necks!:cool:
 
I'm an inch taller with two inch longer legs. I couldn't straighten my legs on the TMAX without pushing myself up onto the little "backrest" even in its farthest-back position. I can easily straighten my legs (and STRETCH them too) on the C650GT.

Also, for sport-riding, I can tuck my feet back on the Beemer so my heels are directly below my butt. Oddly enough on a scooter sold as a "super sport scooter," this isn't possible on the TMAX. Definitely have more leeway on where to put my feet and legs on the Beemer than I ever did on the Yamaha.

It is also a lot easier to stand up and stretch on the Beemer because you can get your feet positioned further back, too. This comes in handy on long trips to stretch your whole body (without having to stop). You can stand on the TMAX, but it isn't comfortable as you practically haul your body up over the front wheel to do so. Hard to steer in that position too. It also doesn't help much when crossing big bumps, as you are not over the "pivot point" of the scooter when you hit those bumps.
 
At 6'2", 33-34 inseam, 35-36 sleeve, the C650GT feels like it was made for me. I have found nothing anywhere near as comfortable, especially with my right hip being "aged" more so than the rest of me and my desire to have an around town bike that can fill in as a tourer. I, too, really like the ability to move my feet around. Personally, I even find the stock seat very comfortable. Now, to find a decent tunnel bag.

Yep same for me. 6'4" 34-35 inseam. The C650GT was designed for me and my bad knees and hip. It was embarrassing at the dealer when I got on the 1200 and needed a box to get down. I'm 72 race sailboats and am very active. This bike with its front mounting is perfect for me as I relive my college days on a Honda Hawk 305.

I may get a motorcycle if I outlive the scooter but it will be an automatic.

The only drawback is the name scooter. This is really a motorcycle as is confirmed when my lady Harley friends ask about the engine size and I say 650 and 110 mph. This gives me street creds. It is the perfect bike for me and my tall leggy girl friends.

I have no problems calling it a scooter. In fact, I get a kick out of the reactions I get from people who see it in person for the first time after just hearing about it (THAT'S a scooter? It's HUGE!).
 
So it looks like I was mistaken... we ARE getting the 2015 TMAX. But for the same price as the C650GT, but without ABS (not even as an option??) I'm not seeing it being much of a sales success. Yamaha seems to be pretty good lately about shooting themselves in the foot with their non-sportbike models.
 
If they still bring it in next year, it'll probably have ABS standard, as the Euro4 laws will require it on all bikes sold and it would make no economic sense to have a special stripped model for a market as small as ours. As of now, it's optional in some countries (the U.K., etc.), and not even offered in North America...:mad:

At a big show in town recently I questioned a senior Yamaha rep about the missing ABS. His position which I find so lame was that 8 of 10 North Americans still don't want ABS. That may be what Harley guys say but I would bet any money that 8 of 10 (if not more) scooter folks would opt for ABS. I think it was nothing more than a scripted response knowing they tried to keep the price down and then realized it was a mistake!
