Handlebar switches replace?

My LT gives me a different take. It blocks a LOT more wind than the GT, and my LT does come equipped with a heated seat and grips. The only advantage the GT has in the winter is if I get stuck in traffic... then the CVT is a lot easier to deal with than the standard 5 speed on the LT (though the traffic would have to be REALLY bad).

I can also BLAST my Christmas music through the LT's eight speaker stereo system to spread holiday cheer. :cool:
 
Actually the wind protection is about even for me for both the GT and LT. My LT has a Corbin unheated seat which is probably the decider in cold weather. Also I don't have my Gerbings set up on the LT. One of the first things I did on my LT when I got it was to remove the radio. I didn't use it and the extra locked storeage space was very nice to have. When I want to listen to music my Bluetooth helmet links to my iPhone which works well. I have a 12V outlet wired into the LT's ex-radio compartment so I can keep the phone, which is also my GPS charged. The setup works well, I can make a call or listen to the GPS instructions on the Bluetooth link. Siri works well through the Bluetooth too so I can dictate messages or have Siri look up something for me without taking the phone out of my pocket or the left compartment. I also have a CB linked to the helmet through a Sena Bluetooth unit. I can stick the CB and the Bluetooth link unit to either bike with a Velcro pad. Very handy, since several fellows I ride with have Goldwings with CB. Now they can't talk about me because I can hear them and talk back.

Yes, I find CVT's are good for the winter because I can wear my military "Mickey Mouse" boots, which have such big toes, they are to big and awkward to use on a shifter bike.
 
I remember the stereo on the K1100LT. Anything above "Local Road" speeds it was pretty useless. The 8-speaker, 200 watt system they used in the K1200LT put not only the K1100LT's system to shame, it even puts the brand new K1600GTL system to shame.

I use the bluetooth speakers on my C650GT, but then I can't "share" with my fellow motorists. There's nothing quite like the dirty look you get from some motorist trying to talk on his/her cell phone when you pull up next to them at a light BLASTING Led Zeppelin from a 200 watt system completely unrestrained by doors or windows...

Well then blasting Led Zeppelin is also a public service. Folks should not drive and talk on their cell phones.
 
Not to derail the rock 'n roll discussion :-) I was suffering from a stuck horn button and the dealer replaced both of the switch pods without question under warranty. I don't think it was a recall item.
 
handlebar switch recall.

I just picked up my GT from the shop after having a 24K service (bike has 26,400 miles on it. They did replace the handlebar switches even though there was no problem with them.
 
I purchased a 2014 650 GT this week. Before the dealer delivered it, they wanted to take care of replacing the switches as they indicated that BMW had a service bulletin out. BMW overnighted the new switches and the dealer did the installation before making the delivery to me.
 
I rode three hours in the rain this weekend on my way to Maine. The turn signal switch started misbehaving about half way. It wouldn't cancel without great difficulty from a right turn .
 
Can someone answer a simple question for me on the turn signal switches. When making a turn should the switches automatically turn off themselves once you've made the turn, like your car. Thought I read that somewhere here? If so, mine has never worked right as I always have to manually turn them off?

That sounds about right. I know if you are used to a bike without self-cancelling signals it can seem as if it takes a long time to work. I was in the habit of hitting the signal switch after every turn when I first got the CGT and did not not even realize it was self-cancelling until someone here mentioned it.
