C600 Starter Motor Issues

Hi Guys,

Has anyone had any issues with alternator or starter motor on the C600, my scoot has done 30000 kms and when I went to start it up after going to fuel station it would not kick over.
Have taken it to the BMW dealer and they are saying its the starter motor is gone and its gouing to cost $3200 Australian dollars for the part.
Seems a bit excessive considering its 1/3rd of the price of a brand new scooter.
Has anyone out there experienced the same ?

ALLWAYS ALLWAYS ALLWAYS clean the battery terminals before condemning the starter. If your starter worked in the morning it probably isn't the problem, they rarely work one minute and not the next. Knowing it is summer down there, I suspect you might have corroded battery terminals exacerbated by the warmer temperatures. Many mechanics will tell you that the first hot days of Summer will cause a lot of no start situations, usually the car/bike started fine in the morning, but, would not start when hot. Clean your battery terminals real well and try again. If it doesn't work, then you might have a bad starter. Then again, you could also have a bad starter switch, starter solenoid, or bad connections somewhere in the circuit. Of course the kick stand safety switch or brake switch could cause the problem. $ 3200 bucks sounds like they want to make a quick profit, and makes me suspicious of your dealer, the US price for the starter is about $460 US dollars, which I think is around 600 Australian.

I started out my working life as an auto mechanic, and after trade school worked in an auto electric shop. I rebuilt generators, alternators, and starters everyday. It was extremely cheap to rebuild a starter!! usually we changed the brushes and bearings and they ran like new. I suggest you look in the business phone book for an auto electric shop or electric motor rebuilder and take it to them.

Its confirmed its the starter motor , but now getting quoted $2500 AUD to get it changed, apparently they are doing me a special rate.
Considering I can get the part from the US for $600 AUD I reckon I can get it replaced for under $1000 .
We get ripped off here in Australia.
 
Did you see them check it?How did they check it?

I would take it to the auto electric shop and see what they can do.
