What made you choose BMW over Burgman?

I am in the market for a ride. Like the looks of the BMW and also own a BNW s1000XR but keep reading about the nightmare maintenance costs associated with the BMW scooters. What made you pick them over another brand especially the Burgman, which I am hearing is the "best of them all" they seem to say. Just looking to cut to the chase, and limit my search to one specific brand. TIA.

What nightmare maintenance cost? I have not nightmare to maintenance mine!
 
Not $2,000.00. Still very expensive (@$1,200.00) if everything on list is done. BMW did go to inspect and emplacement if needed instead of mandatory everything being done. Even so, still expensive. Went scooters because I did not start riding until I was 54. When looking to upgrade in 2012 I was looking at Burgman over silverwing until I found C650GT. It has a little more leg room or my long legs. If that is not an issue, the Burgman is a good bike.
 
I like the looks of the BMW better and was attracted by the large displacement and realiability image of BMW. Since I do my own maintenance and repairs, that wasn't a factor in my decision. Have not regretted my decision to purchase my 2016 Sport, last year March, used with 1,960 miles on the clock, for $6,500.
 
I liked the look of it. It's the closest thing to replacing my wings that I could find. It's done well... so well that I've logged an Iron Butt Ride on it. Very Capable and comfortable touring machine.
 
I wasn't specifically looking for a scooter but then one came along that I couldn't pass on (2017 C650GT with 275 ml for $5,300) . I just wanted to try something different (the fact that my friend wanted to buy my R1200GS LC was another factor). I've been riding BMWs for about 8 years now so, for me, it was a logical choice (brand loyalty, etc.). That said, I believe BMW suspension, front fork, and bigger wheels give C650 some advantage. ABS, TSC, heated grips and seat are just an icing on the cake. Oh, and I also like side stand/parking break feature. Just my 0.02c.
 
Chose BMW over Burgman because of colors available (like the cosmic blue). Also, BMW has name recognition. Nice to have toys that folks are impressed by just by hearing the name. Had I been buying for commute or similar, I'd probably have gotten a honda for reliability.
 
I looked at a Burgman, but I felt a little cramped on it and also thought it looked cheap compared to the BMW. Picked up a 2016 C650GT with 1960 miles this spring. Really like it.

I purchased by C650GT because of the local dealership (IronHorse Motorcycles). I like them -- every one that works there. The owner, the two salesmen, the service manager, the parts man, the accountant, the two service techs. The dealership is well respected in the city where I live. I have 6 BMWs and I trust them.

But I looked hard at (and almost purchased) a used 650 Burgman -- they are nice scooters too.

Well, I had numerous motorbikes and few scooters. 2016 or newer BMW C is the most comfortable, and handles the best as well. Second place, in my opinion, was Honda Silverwing, Burgman would be the last. Mind you, I have not tried Yamaha, Piaggio or Aprilla, nor do I have desire to try. I love the electric windshield on GT.

Just happy with 2016 GT. I am looking forward to newer model, perhaps in a near future they will redesign/further improve. I like some changes to 400 scooter, hopefully some things will change. Keyless start would be welcome, a tad more power wouldn’t hurt either (Aprilla has 800cc engine).

Yeah sure BMW servicing is not cheap. But the C650gt only needs doing every 6000 mile 10000km while the Burgman 650 needs doing every 4000miles 6500km. That's a big difference if you are commuting every day.
 
Hmmm....Just like your purchase of the s1000xr, a lot depends on your riding game plan. I have owned a C650GT and found it to be completely trouble free (13,500 miles) and one of the most comfortable motorcycle/scooters I ever purchased. But I would also look at the BMW 400 scooter as well as the Yamaha Xmax 300.

Motorcycles and scooters are tons of fun. Guess you wouldn't be here if you didn't already know that. Traveling via motorcycle/scooter is a blast. Bucket list stuff. Personally, I am heading back to scooters from mostly dual-sport 1000cc+ motorcycles. Mid-size 300-400 cc is my new preference. They work great in urban environments but they also travel well (FWIW, I am an Iron Butt member) and you can get plenty sporty if that's what you're after.

And if you have the skill set of Skutorr and his brother (and maybe a few other folks on this forum) you can blow away the average motorcyclist in the twistees with a high quality mid-range scooter.
