Key c600 sport

If they are like the c650 they do. I lost one of mine (found it later) and had to provide the dealership a copy of my title for them to fax/email to Germany for them to program a replacement key. You might be able to get a locksmith to program, I don’t know.
 
Thanks Mjnorris. I am not sure if the C600 and C650 used the same type key. I am not even certain how to check if my key has a chip. I ordered a key blank and waiting. I do know I can get the numbers stamped on the key socket and my locksmith can cut the key exactly. As far as a chip...I guess I will not know until and try it out. My buddy actually took his old worn key on his BMW car and put the chip next to the ignition. now he can just use a cheap $2 key from any hardware store

Smart, but smarter still would be if he glued the old chip onto the key, that he takes with him when he gets out of the car instead of leaving it next to the ignition for the thief to take off with!

I went to my local locksmith yesterday to get my new BMW Scooter key cut. The key works great but was told it has "No Chip" Now I need to figure out how to get a replacement chip and have it programmed. My understanding is that the GS911 does not have the capability to program new keys with chips. I did find a USA company that does cut and program keys for BMW but one has to mail the key in. 3-day turnaround. $53.92 USD https://www.carmousa.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=493_1351_1355_2127&products_id=1048

F you mail the key in how do they know what to program the chip for? Unless you also have to mail in a good key for them to copy?
 
Update in "Duplicate Chipped key" saga: Well, the Locksmith in Georgia finally got back to me. Seems the 2012 C600 has a totally more complicated ignition Theft protection system than the 2013 and newer. The C600 2012 key can not be cloned. I would have to remove the key ignition assembly and the Computer and mail everything together with a working key, estimated about $375usd plus freight . So, Long story short, I had a couple BMW C600 keys duplicated, zip tied the original key chipped key under all the ignition cover plastic so it can not be seen. Now a $2 key works every time. If the scooter gets stolen oh well. Its a 2012 so no big loss. lol. great idea. Actually after researching chipped keys for scooters, motorcycles and high end cars, the professional thieves can actually get into any car/motorcycle in less than 3 minutes and drive off. Keys are no longer great protection. The devices can be purchased for cheap on ebay etc
