Cam chain tensioner

Hi,
When I replaced mine it was a simple job of unscrewing the old unit ( once you have removed panels and trim) and popping the new tensioner in. As long as you have a good selection of T bar Allen wrenches in decent lengths make the job a little easier.

No and the end result was a non rattling cam chain and back to great performance.

I decided to play it safe and get the BMW blocking tool that is referenced in the shop manual. Not expensive, especially when compared to catastrophic engine damage. You set the engine at a certain timing point, the blocking tool screws into a specific slot, and Bob's your uncle (remove old tensioner, insert new one, remove granade pin, insert small bolt into grenade pin hole, done). I would not chance deviating from the workshop manual but clearly it's possible, given Sherlock's experience.
