Changed oil, now shakes more when idling and revs harder.

I know the manual calls for 15w50 for my 650gt. However, I've always used Amsoil full synthetic on my previous motorcycles. I changed the oil and used what Amsoil told me was comparable to the 15w50. They don't have that weight so I used 20w50. Immediately after I noticed that the bike would shake more when idling. I'm thinking it's due to the oil. What are your thoughts?

Where are you located, is it cold out, the oil is thicker than a 15 weight when it warms up does the bike calm down many questions can be asked. Did you drain all the old oil out (from both drain plugs) if not check the level again.

I took it to BMW Motorcycles of Dallas....My conclusion is that the oil is thicker and that's probably why it vibrates more.

when we first started selling the c600/650 we could'nt get hold of the castrol 15/50 and we used 10/40. i would say that the 20/50 is too thick. i run the castrol 15/50 in my 600 sport and i have no issues at all. worth checking that on the 600 mile service the front strainer was changed for the oil pipe.

After just 1 day with the 20w50 synthetic oil, I went ahead and flushed it out today and replaced it with BMW high performance 15w50 and immediately I noticed idling and revving was much smoother, after warm up.

I would say 20W-50 is to thick. I use Amsoil 10W-40 motorcycle oil and it works fine. Amsoil 10W-40 is what they call a thick 10-40, in fact it is a 10W-48. They can not call it a 10-50 because it its simply not a full 50wt oil. Also remember the intermittent temperature starts at 350F. if you ever get to 350F oil temperature something is burning or plastic has melted.
