My new aprakravic muffler

I just finished installing my new Aprakravic muffler and I am sad to report I think I mostly wasted my money.

I say mostly because my main reason for changing the muffler was to have a throatier sounding exhaust. The sound isn't much different now than it was stock, in fact if someone had changed the muffler without me knowing it, I probably wouldn't have even noticed. I also tried removing the end baffle (if you want to call it a baffle) and it didn't change the sound much either.

However, I will say that it does look better and it might have saved a pound or two, but other than that it wasn't worth changing.

Therefore, at least from my experience, don't expect much change in the exhaust sound unless you also remove the catalytic converter; something I do not plan to do.

Oh well, at least it was easy to install and it does look better.

OBTW, to be fair, since the Aprakravic muffler is a straight through design, I doubt if any brand muffler would sound any different without also removing the cat.

I did and it made very little difference. With the baffle out (the baffle is actually just a slightly curved open tube) you can look straight through so there isn't too much that is being muffled even with the baffle in. However, I may try removing everything inside the muffler and turn it into a form of an echo chamber. That might work, then again, it may sound really strange.

Only other thing to do is cut the cat out. That's what I did, then with a apocravic it's sweeeet

when i fitted my akro silencer i kinda thought the same about it's value but now happy i made the decision to buy it. at the end of the day i love the look's and the performance gain, noise isn't everything!!!
my old T-max had a full akro system and after fitting it i ran it without the baffle, sounded great...............then 20 minutes later annoyed me, an auto, permanantly on pipe bellowing in your ears isn't fun and TBH, made less power and drank fuel because it ran over rich. so glad to re-fit the baffle.
is the akro you fitted a BMW one or just an akro??

Mine is just an Akro not the BMW Akro. I thought about taking it off and selling it but I now plan on keeping it. Like you I do like the looks better, and again like you, I may also come to like the more subdued sound. It does have a little bit different sound, not much but a little, so I can live with it.

I'm not sure I noticed any performance gain though, but that's ok too; I didn't buy it for a performance gain. What is the claimed gain anyway? 1 or 2 max hp increase? If so can you even feel that small of a difference?

the Apoc alone won't increase the HP 2, but the main increase comes from better filter and tuning to make 52hp.
for the sound; your cat under neath muffles the sound, then your apoc muffles what remains. so no matter what muffler you get it will be about the same. for the best sound form the apoc, you have to remove the cat, then you are looking at great sound but it is much louder.

As a point of interest.

I tried placing a piece of straight tubing into the muffler and all the way to where it connects to the Cat. That effectively made it a straight pipe from the Catalytic Converter out past the end of the muffler; the muffler was then completely bypassed and wasn't doing anything.

Guess what?

It still sounded about the same, and it might have even been slightly quieter. Therefore, it appears that with the Cat in place, no muffler is needed whatsoever. A straight pipe directly out of the Cat has almost the same sound as the expensive muffler BMW engineered for our scooters.

Yeah that's what i thought... Regardless of whatever slip-ons u have,e sound is pretty much e same or just a tad different from e OEM ones.e sound from e sexy Termignoni with e baffles off ain't different either.
Just last week,i was at e junction when this chap on his bling-bling Tmax came along side me.He had e Akra on his bike and oh my word it sounded awesome but when e lights turned green,he accelerated and i scooted away from him [emoji16]

Hmmm, that's interesting. I may have my local exhaust shop just fab up a small tip right on the end of the cat outlet. (To point it out the back so as not to get water in) just eliminate the muffler all together. I'd rather save the weight if the sound is the same. plus I like the look of underbike exhaust better than having a large can up along the side. Much cleaner look...
