Fuel Capacity

I performed a search for this, if there is an existing article, please post the URL in your reply.

Basically, just trying to understand what I have in the tank and the additional "reserve". The owners is as confusing as could be on the subject, because it makes no clear distinction and thus leaves too much for interpretation.

It says "4.2" usable, with 3/4 of a gallon reserve. Does the 4.2 include the 3/4 (4.2 total gallons), or is there really 4.2 gallons + the 3/4 gallon reserve (nearly 5 gallons total)?

Kinda important to clarify when calculating longer trips, thanks in advance!

I've personally seen 16 miles "on reserve" whilst on the highway. In town I'd not push it that far.
I plan on 150 miles mixed per fill up.

i have done over 25 miles on reserve, parked up on the side stand then the light went out again and i covered a few more miles. very random but i kinda know my limits.

My reserve light comes on at 300km (180 miles) then I will ride an additional 50-75km (30-45 miles) I then will put in 15 litres of fuel (the total in the tank dry is 16)

I reset trip-meter #1 to zero at every fill-up. When it reaches around 150 miles, I'm looking for a filling station. Keeps life simple.

I surmise from all replies involved that the 4.2 gallons is comprised of the reserve and standard capacity before reserve. I'm going to use the PureGas information on this trip (14 days), I will let everyone know if I see a mileage benefit. Thank you everyone!

this last fill up my fuel light came on at 189 miles. When I gassed up, the bike had 206 miles on it and took 3.76 gallons. I always figure that it is safe for 200 miles. The mileage doesn't seem to be effected by having a passenger on the back.

Really pushed it recently - ~40 miles after light appeared, 218 miles, 4.2 gallons.

Ran mine out today. After the low fuel light came on I was able to only get 38.1 miles until I got to push all 600 million pounds of scooter!

This would still depend on how hard and the conditions you ride in
But the question I have is what was the grand total of miles.

I set my BMW Navigator "Fuel Range" to 180 miles with a warning at 140. Usually the GPS warns me to get fuel before the bike's instruments do, and that's fine. "A pessimist is never disappointed."

I have mine set to 330km (205m) and to warn me at 300km (185m) and my fuel light in the dash comes on at between 290 and 310km depending on riding style for the day

Ha, but a pessimist is always disappointed. Of course, your point is..."Better safe than sorry."

Old bike guys know to well that feeling about "Can I make it to the next gas station?". Then again, old bike guys can't keep riding as long as these bikes can stay on the road, and we have to stop for other types of things.
