Anyone dropped the long skinny oil filter in the pan?

If it hadn't been for this forum I surely would have dropped mine. Is there a ledge just below the filter where you can fish from? Do U just leave the dropped filter in the case? Any comments?

You can't leave it in there. I would try fishing for it with some wire hooked on the end. You might go to an automotive parts store that loans or rents tools and see if they have a borescope, or a very small inspection mirror might go in. Unfortunately, I believe the mesh is stainless steel, so a magnet won't do you much good. I don't think you are the first here to loose the filter. Maybe they will speak up with how they got theirs out.

Once you find it use a screwdriver or socket extension to guide it. Stick the extension or screw driver through the filter, then into the case. Then you can slide the filter into the engine with no chance of dropping it in.

Or a chopstick or long skewer.
