My first C400GT Annual service is due soon, although only having 1000 miles on clock, and to keep another years warranty, I am reluctantly having to take it to a BMW main dealer.
Are these BMW main dealers going to rip my wallet apart or will they be comparably fair, as the previous Japanese scooters I have owned in the past?
Or is it worth ditching the warranty commitment and doing all the service work myself. ( I am a retired mechanical engineer so very competent )

I’m paying $350 Canadian for my annual service which includes an oil change.

In the past, I’ve paid $200 for an oil change for my Yamaha

As I thought, the usual BMW attitude of overcharging for everything.
I would have purchased a Yamaha XMAX 400 again but the leg room was very limited for my long legs and gave me backache whereas the C400GT was the only scooter available that had loads of forward stretch room.
It is a shame as the Yamaha is a far superior, reliable, cheap to run, long term ownership scooter where you can get bundles of cheap spares everywhere and the UK, Yamaha dealerships charge fairly and not as a cash cow.
BMW may think they are better and more premium than everyone else but in reality this is simply not true. Just look at all the faults with the 1st generation 2019, 2020 400 models. They have had to quickly redesign the scooter using Euro 5 as a get out of jail card.

I had the initial service, plus I had a GARMIN motorcycle mount and wiring harness installed. The bill was $365.00.

When I had them install the BMW luggage rack, they charged me $60.

I consider those reasonable.

Recently I purchased the factory warranty extension that goes out to 7yrs, unlimited mileage. Since I am moving back East soon I have no idea what the dealership in Cincinnati may charge. If those charges are similar to Kansas City I'm ok with it.

Don in KC (for a short time at least).

update: 2 months into owning the 2022 it’s already in the shop for repairs… a warranty is meaningless when parts and quality are nonexistent. i’m hopeful that yours “if you own one” hasn’t started leaking oil. look underneath the CVT and see if there’s oil collecting, if so, there’s a build / quality issue. these are very very expensive and too have it usable for only a few weeks seems pretty poor. BMW has seriously let me personally down and i currently regret the bike. the hondas and yamahas never presented issues like this, and are honestly easier and cheaper to fix. today while still in the shop waiting for parts i’m going to return the bike for what i’m used to…. something that is japanese, it may not have the BMW badge, but what does that mean when it’s a 10,000 paper weight. not exactly a positive statement but in my case a very accurate one. again if yours is working fine i’m happy for you. but i simply can’t trust the bike at this point. and confidence is important when driving down the highway on two wheels.

I saw this post and asked what the first service would cost at my dealership. They punched it in and said $351.00 which includes an oil and filter change. That does not sound to bad here in Milwaukee. I plan to do most oil changes myself. I just purchased my 2023 C400GT, the dealer had 3 in stock and told me they just came in recently, I hope they have the bugs worked out. I have been lucky so far and have had very few issues with my motorcycles or scooters.

Here are my actual invoices for break-in service for my C 400 GTs, both services performed at Max BMW's Troy, NY, shop.

The service for the '22, in July 2022, was $265 + tax. The service for the '23, in December 2023, was $308 + tax.

I like your pricing Bill. They even picked your bike up and dropped it off in NY and charged you less.
Yeah, that free van transport is a system Max uses, starting in late November each year, for the first NN(?) bike owners who sign up for service over the winter. Gives the techs something to do when most folks around here aren't riding.

I just had warranty work done on mine. The Air temp sensor was damaged. It was replaced and the wiring repaired as well. I also had a new rear tire mounted and balanced. A screen cover was installed, the scoot was washed, and I paid to have it delivered ($125). All-in-all the bill was $415.09. My mileage on this 2022 400GT is 7123miles. I was anticipating it costing around $600, so I am happy.
