Confused

Hello all! I have a major concern. About a month ago, I ran over something that damaged my oil filter causing the oil to leak out and the scooter to shut down. I replaced the filter and oil, but may have damaged the engine. Anyways, it has rode for about a month, to and from work. My red warning light came on with the battery icon as well. On my way to get another battery, it shut down. Replaced the battery and it started right up… only to have the light and icon return 20 minutes into riding and the scooter to again shut down. Took it to a shop and they told me that I had only a teaspoon of oil and changed the filter and oil. They ran diagnostics, stating nothing else was wrong. On my way home from the shop, same things happened again!! What is the problem???

After you refilled the oil yourself, did you notice any oil leakage? Any blue smoke with engine running? If neither, it is strange the shop had to fill with oil again.
To your concrete question of what is the problem, I would first ask the shop what diagnostics they did, including whether they have the ability to read codes from the ECU. depending on their reply, consider getting the motoscan app + required plug-in dongle, and read the codes yourself.
If you drove for a while with very little oil then, yes, it is quite possible the engine got damaged (badly). There should be good used engines out there if need be. Best of luck, hope it's something less catastrophic.
