Indianapolis or Bust!

Hitting the road on Wednesday, bound for Indianapolis and the Red Bull Indianapolis MotoGP. I decided (for the hell of it) to leave my trusty K1200LT behind and make the trip on my new C650GT. First day will be from Long Island, NY to Washington, PA (a distance of about 420 miles) with the remainder of the trip completed on Thursday. I'll be in Indianapolis for all three days of practice, qualifying and racing and then heading back home first thing Monday morning.

I may (or may not) make a stop in Pickerington, OH to visit the AMA Headquarters and see the museum. Depends on how things are going, weather, etc. I expect to be back home Tuesday evening.

Any chance I might meet some of you along the way?

Well, we're here! Got in around 4:30 and staying at the Motel 6 in Speedway (where we always stay other than that first year where we camped at that miserable trackside campsite). Two days, 800 miles on a scooter. Whoda thunk it? I do wish the scooter had a REAL cruise control, but the Throttlemeister came in handy a couple of times when I wanted to give my right hand a break.

Back home again. Almost 2,000 miles in a week. I'm wiped, but the scooter held up like a champ. The throttlemeisters made a big difference on the highway as well. Also discovered that the C650GT has some "wind vanes" I wasn't aware of. That came in handy on the chilly mornings and I sure wish I'd discovered them last week when it was only 48 degrees when we left in the morning!!

I've also tested the heated grips and they work very well too. Didn't bother with the seat (it wasn't THAT cold). It's definitely a suitable cross-country touring mount, though. Well deserving of the "GT" moniker for sure.
