...I wholly respect Skutorr and believe he has contributed mightily to this forum.

Skutorr, schmootor. Just because he knows tons more than some of us (uh, that means me)?.....

Sorry, couldn't help myself. But, yeah, a great contributor especially since I think he is a former buckeye. Is that right, Skutorr?

I'm a Pitt graduate and Buckeye still means to me that you have to document your statements and opinions. Sorry guys... the river is still there.

Yep, born in Lorain, Ohio! Escaped to California in '62. Went through TWO major tornados in Ohio, and 3 major earthquakes here. I'll take the EARTHQUAKES! (And the weather...)

H-m-m-m, SCHMOOTORR? I LIKE it! (Who remembers the SCHMOOS???)

I started to "Like" your comment after reading it and laughing and then realized it was a shot at us. Oh well, yeah we are kinda numb and dumb when it comes to comments about the land of the burning river.

Oh, what the hell.....It was funny.

Do not remember where I read this, memory is about as short as, well you know. Last spring I was looking for information and found a sight, do not know if what they said was true or not.

KYMCO was pouring blocks in China shipping to an old European warehouse in Austria where a portion was converted to an assembly line for C engines. Germany was supplying internal parts for final assembly then shipping completed engines back to Berlin.

Does not seem right I would think assemble engines in China or Berlin would be a better plan.

Thanks Oldscoot. Question answered Engine and CVT made in Tiwan then shipped to Berlin for final bike assembly.

That explains why the C600 variator and Aprilia SRV850 variators are essentially THE SAME! The hottest set-up in Italy (until an ongoing design lawsuit shut it down) was putting a completely NEW DESIGN CONCEPT variator, the F4, made for the Aprilia SRV 850 on the big BMW scoots. It was BOLT-ON! Here are pics of it:

China is doing just what Japan did earlier. When I was a kid the stuff coming from "Occupied Japan" was pretty much junk, but it didn't take long before their camera gear was pushing the German camera companies very hard. Soon their stuff was as good as the German products. The main difference being cost. The first Honda cars that came into the US in the early '70s were pretty sorry. It didn't take long for Toyota and Honda to go from cheapo junk to primo vehicles. Ditto their bikes. China is doing the same thing now and will improve even faster than Japan did since they are leap frogging what it took the Japanese to develop. Same thing with the Koreans with Hyundai and Kia. There are some pretty nice cars now. I don't worry a bit about BMW's scooter engines being built in China. BMW also has a big stake in these engines carrying their logo. I've seen a couple of 100,000 mile Silverwing scooters and expect the BMW 600/650 to be able to do the same.
