Side stand again

As I've said before I've always felt the bike leaned too far over when on the side stand. I saw it was again leaning too far and decided to put it on the lift, pull the body panels and study the problem rather than just replace the bent and broken bolts again. I've pinched a nerve in my neck and have NO strength in my right thumb and fore finger (cannot pick up a spoon or pull a trigger so my clay shooting is on hold while the Doctors try and figure me out). Please allow me to ramble a moment, if you have one of the Harbor Freight motorcycle lifts you should install screws in the lift out plate under the rear tire; I had my scoot on the lift and the center stand ends up on the removable plate. While jacking up the lift the combined now off-centered plate and the motion of jacking up the lift with the foot pedal caused the bike to come off the center stand about 2 feet off the floor and I had to catch the bike, push it back up and on it's tires and position myself to reach the lowering pedal while holding the bike so I could lower the bike and get it standing again. The bike is now off center on the lift, being held up with the broken side stand, rear tire resting on the removable plate that is no longer level on the lift floor and I had removed the drive up ramp from the back of the lift so it wouldn't be hanging in mid air while the lift is being jacked up, the bike has moved enough that I can't get the ramp back on the lift to get the bike off so I can start over. My son-in-law got back home a few hours later, helped me push the bike forward, get the plate put where it belongs, push the scoot off and park it while I take 2 TEK-5 screws and secure the removable plate so it stays in place. I put the bike back on the lift, centered, back on the center stand and jack the bike up again. I removed body panels and found the portion of the side stand that attaches to the bike is broken into two parts, the side stand switch is broken, a bolt mounting the side stand to the bike is broken, another is severely bent, total FUBAR. A good thing is the assembly is modular and you can purchase the parts separately. Stateside the mounting bracket is about $182.00, the side stand switch is about $145.00, bushings between the bracket and side stand are about $20.00 and the clip that retains the side stand switch another $5.00 plus tax and shipping (BMW = "bring more wampum"). I did a search and found all the parts at a BMW place in France, with shipping ( 50 euros ) it was $245.00. I've ordered from Italy and from Great Britain before and have never had any problems so I hope that holds true yet again. I'm thinking the PO must have been climbing onto the bike while it was on the side stand and sitting on it, something sure warped it. Right now my hand is so weak I can't twist the throttle, just push my hand hard into the throttle and squeeze with my 2 smallest fingers so it's a good time to get it sorted.... A TEK-5 screw is a self drilling, self tapping screw, installed with an impact driver, it has a long drill point and is fine threaded so when you've drilled through 2 pieces of metal the fine threads tap both pieces and squeezes them very tightly.

You can check out this site that's in England:

Price is close to what you're seeing from the supplier in France. But if you sign up for their emails, they'll send you a discount code. I've ordered from them before to get some things for my S1000RR. Didn't have a problem at all with the order and parts I received were genuine BMW.

What @zx10guy said -- I just ordered about a grand of shiny bits for my new-to-me GT from this site, and they got it Stateside quick and without hassle.

But I'd also suggest that you toss the part numbers you need (no spaces) into an eBay search that looks like this

BMW (12345678, 23456789, 34567890, etc, etc) <-- commas separating each part

and press search. If you find parts for less, great. If you find parts for close-to-less, put em on a watchlist, and sellers will frequently send you a discounted price in a couple days.

Parts arrived from France 4 days after order, everything OEM. That's faster than most stateside sellers. In re-assembly I found that the side stand switch does not include the cable that ties into the chassis harness (looked like it was all one piece) but the good news is it is a common part used on BMW cars as well as Mini Coopers and I should be able to pick it up locally from a dealer. My scoot was made late 2012 and the new side stand bracket is made a little different, it has 2 anchor holes on the bottom of the engine and feels MUCH more sturdy.
