The Elio...A Winter Bike??

Oh wow... The Elio. I've had some interesting back and fourths with supporters of this concept. I'll keep it brief and just say this...

I wish it would become a reality because I'd buy one tomorrow, but I think it won't. And if it does there is zero possible way it can hit it's target price... Approx that of a Vespa GTS.
I think it's a bit of a scam and anyone who puts a deposit down will more than likely lose their dough.

The Can Am is a prime example of why the Elio cannot and will not ever be 7k. Not if they are going ahead with American labor and their own 3cyl power plant. The whole thing is as likely to happen as the flying car concept. I'd think it would be easier to get a Reliant Robin and have a ball of laughs.

The Elio most likely won't actually be produced. It looks to me like a typical under capitalized start up. There have been several failures like this, the Tucker, Jim Bede's BD-1 airplane, all ballyhooed as super cheap and advanced designs. Usually these start ups collect money to put one on an order list which gets them a position on a production list. The company then uses this money to try and build a few prototypes. Inevitably these kind of companies fail. Much like a Ponzi scheme in that it has to get enough people to sign up so it can manufacture a few vehicles to use as props to get more sign ups to provide more money to produce a few vehicles. Most often the folks on the production list don't end up getting a vehicle because the company has insufficient funds to produce them. The jilted people on the list sue the company which immediately goes bankrupt and the people on the list don't get much if any of their money back.

I was at the return to trenton rally this past weekend and I saw this and thought it would make a winter bike. It is a suzuki burgman with training wheels. The center wheel is still the drive wheel and the outside wheels just keep it upright and roll

I've seen those things on other bikes, specifically the original Kawasaki Voyager. Remember that six-cylinder tank? 8.5 gallon fuel tank on top of that TALL six cylinder, inline engine. Those things were dropped FREQUENTLY. Wasn't surprised to see so many with "training wheels."

There used to be a MP-3 with outriggers that would occasionally show up at scooter events. That's 5 wheels total. I never asked why, but I was more than curious.

A few of my fellow MP3 owners have added Tow-Pacs to their MP3 so that they drive like an auto - no leaning. Never understood this, but I know a few that did it.

The only advantage to a single rear wheel has to do with licensing and insurance. Other than that, it can't come up with a single advantage to it.

Maybe the Scion Iq is a fair comparison, but it's also 14k ( but still cheaper than a smart car) And really, a solid axle and a pair of stamped steel wheels don't cost that much.

Oh!! I thought the advantage was having two wheels in front. So the Piaggio is not a motorcycle with two wheels in front, it's a car with one wheel in back??? LOL Actually, three wheels will prevent rocking on rough ground. ( see milking stools and tripods) LOL

If it does not lean into turns, is equipped with a bucket seat with seatbelts it's not a bike. An Mp3 does lean, has a mc saddle, footpegs and no seatbelts therefore it's a bike.

Not a Bike:
Morgan, Robin, Sparrow, T-Rex, Bond, Messerschmitt, Aptera and anything like that.

Sure, a stool or tripod will find footing on uneven ground, but there is zero guarantee of it being level. Put independent suspension on any chair or stool and I'd expect solid footing and a plumb seating arrangement.

I have had a Can-Am spider RS the trike was extremely fast but I would not really call it a motorcycle I also own a Gilera Fuoco MP3 500 I would call this a motorcycle because you can lean into turns at 42 degrees and the wheels are about 15 inches apart to the inside side walls ( front wheels) PS I got rid of the Spyder because I would always drive it quite fast and didn't want to kill myself, I was traveling up 91 in VT going to chemo and got the Spyder Up to 140 mph and that is when I decided to sell it. As I said I did drive it fast.

Yeah, if you are on a flat level floor!! Of course you could install air or hydraulic suspension and always have a level milking stool.
